There are so many Porsches and other really nice cars around here the kids don't even look, their mommy or dad probably owns a better one, they look at the Hampster Kia more than a Porsche.
At a show here one time a woman and two daughters walked by my Porsche, one said, look mommy, that's the same color as ours, mommy said, yeah but ours is new. Everyone has something better. |

Wayner I hear ya with regards to kids these days!
2 weeks ago our PCA Wild Rose region had a joint drive to Banff with the Southern Alberta Ferrari Club. I asked my son if he wanted to tag along and be my co-pilot as there would be a pretty good gathering of cool cars, both new and vintage that would be taking part. Well, as it turns out that weekend would coincide with the launch of Grand Theft Auto 5.....you can only guess at the rest of the story. Ya, I was pretty disappointed that a stoooopid video game wins over a real, genuine world experience! ![]()

Sounds like kids today aren't sufficiently feeding our vanity?

I get thumbs up or comments from the 13 and under and 40 and over groups. Male and female.
But yes, lose the phone when there is someone with you.

Sorry guys, but to the average world they are just old cars. An old 911 doesn't stand out to the car-ignorant public like a true exotic, or even a new 911. These cars are at the point that they only are remarkable to the car savvy, i.e. don't expect to attract chicks with them.
![]() My oldest son (9) is borderline indifferent to cars. He notices and points out cool ones (including old Porsches) and goes to car shows with me, but I think it's as much because of me as his own interest. He seems more interested in racing, which is good. No interest in working on cars with me in the garage. I figured that he just wasn't going to be a car guy, until he commented to my wife last week that his first car would either be "a Porsche that I modify, or a Jeep that I put a lift on". Maybe there's hope yet.

Unfortunately i don't believe this is a trait exclusive to kids.
I went to my son's high school open house a few weeks back. We'd go to one class at a time and hear the teacher's 20 minute presentation. As soon as the session was over people would leave and go to the next one, but after nearly every session I saw a parent walk out of the class, take a few steps from the door and stop dead in their tracks as they fumbled with their dumb phones. They acted as if they didn't realize they were causing a log-jamb of people or didn't care. Everyone else had to stop and squeeze around them as they stood in the way. And what surprised me the most was it was usually men doing it. |

And yes, I know that there are apps that give waiting times for rides and all that, but this couldn't possibly account for all the people I saw who seemed more interested in playing with their phones than in being at Disneyland. Will it all eventually come to this?

Kids are interested in cars that offer a seamless interface with their phones.

Most of us have fairly mundane lives on a day to day basis. Why we think we are going to miss out on something if we don't check our phones every few minutes amazes me. Or maybe people are hoping something might come up that will add some excitement to their lives. Either way, people really seem to worry about what is going on with everyone else.

My kids have no interest in cars other than being a conveyance from a to b.
They are well educated (or soon will be) professionals and I won't have to support them. I don't consider their lack of vehicular love a failure on their part or mine, to each his own. In many ways my life would be easier without the distraction (and cost) of cars. I am sure there are kids out there that still love cars (although maybe not our 'old' cars). I don't judge anyone's particular passions, as long as they have one.

Until my son was 17 he had no interest in cars and even then it's limited. He doesn't want to work or learn on my cars.
I think kids have changed in that driving a car isn't a big event that it used to be, but just a hassle to endure because mom and dad drive them every where now. |

Agreed. The cell phone has turned men into a bunch of douches.

But there are young people who are still interested in cars. I enjoy restoring vintage VWs, and that world is full of kids who are as passionate about their cars as you guys are about your Porsches. Many are handy with tools and are avid do-it-yourselfers too. They're rebuilding motors, working metal, reupholstering interiors and even doing complete body-off restorations. Interest in cars isn't completely dead yet.

First pic it looks like the kid lives there. Do you look at your car all the time you are in the garage, every time you walk through? Because I don't. In LA you see so many nice cars that a quick look is enough, then you look back at the road or where you are walking. It takes something really rare to stand out. The 911 would get 4 times as many onlookers as the Cayman R when parked at a local hangout, however. A normal Cayman would get none. The 911 might get a dozen on a good day- about what a new McLaren might get. The (old) 911 would get more than a new Ferrari though, unless it was their top supercar.
The things that get the most attention are the old cars- RS200s, Gullwings, Alfas, Talbot-Lagos, Ferrari 275s, Loti, etc.

Einstein quote
Quote:
In conclusion, QI believes that Albert Einstein did not write or say any of the three variant quotations. Individuals who were aggravated by the behavior patterns of cell phone users probably facilitated the construction, evolution, and dissemination of this meme. The phrasing of the saying has changed over time and different sets of pictures have been attached. QI hypothesizes that the origination date was recent, perhaps as late as 2012. The efforts of the creators have been successful for now. The basic saying has achieved viral status with its dubious ascription.

I'd bet that about the time the Model A arrived a lot of old farts were wondering why kids didn't seem to have the proper interest in horses.

Walking around with their heads down, zoned in on a tiny screen trains kids how to drive late model vehicles with those center dash jizmo screens. LOL.
Ever notice how neighborhood playgrounds are empty of baseball and basketball pick-up games? Lack of interest, exercise. Its all about Angrybrds and Facesmack.
