				Concussions

I haven't had a good one in a long time fortunately. During my youth I probably had four on my record. Skateboarding got me twice fully unconscious, soccer once and once by my big brother swinging me by my ankles in a circular motion. The circular motion came to an abrupt stop when I crashed into my even bigger brothers lower thigh. I remember coming to, and seeing them kneeling over me saying "Don't tell Mom!".

Timely!!! I just spent my day at the ER with my 16 year old. He was longboarding to the bus stop and went face first to the street. We will get him to Childrens Hospital's Concussion center Tuesday. Trying to keep him away from facebook, TV, his rock band and marching band is another issue.

Smacked in the head with a baseball bat when I was 6, I was out for 20 seconds or so. I caught a few line drives with my face over the years that had me seeing stars. Probably a few more. Interesting that nobody mentioned playing football. My 9 year old is on year two of playing tackle football, but some of his friend's parents won't let their kids play due to concussion fears. I've always contended that there are a bunch of ways that active kids and teens can get a concussion. You guys are proving me right thus far.

I was delivering a load to a job site down in one of the Carolinas (can't remember) trying to release a chain binder........when it finally popped open it caught me in the forehead. When I came to there was blood everywhere. Several people were standing over me telling me not to move. After an ambulance ride and 8 stiches I got a ride back to my truck looking like a member of the Taliban.

First one playing hockey, got both legs pulled out from under me, and my forehead hit the ice. This was back in the early 70's, no helmets back then, lost my eyesite for about 45 min. I remember my dad carrying me into the ER and I puked all over the nurse who went to help him! Second one when sledding and hit a tree. Next one playing soccer in college. And the last one a few years ago playing hockey again, got blind sided by some A-hole who thought he was playing for the Cup. So I blame my surly disposition to too many hits to the head!!

I've had my share of incidents. The big one was falling from an 80 foot high limb of a tree and hitting most limbs on the way down. Knocked out by one half way down. Woke up a few minutes later to frantic crowd who thought I was dead. Wanted up but couldn't walk. Put myself out in class doing the hold the breath trick a few times. That's fun.

10 years old, decided to play slalom on a bike with the steel poles holding up an deck. Hit one of the poles dead on in the forehead, then the back of my head hitting the ground. 18 years old, got clocked in the jaw, broke off half a molar, saw stars for a bit. 20 years old, over-rotated on a dirt bike, hit the back of my head hard. Cracked my helmet, blurred vision for a while. 24 years old, 36mm wrench slipped off an oil line fitting, smacked me in the head. Left a scar.

At 13, had a horse flip over on me. At 16, decidedly un graceful dismount off a 2 year old gelding resulted in at least 30 minutes lost. At 28, schooling cross country with a helmet on, horse ducked, I over corrected almost pulled him over, broke my pinky finger before I came off and had a humdinger of a concussion. Don't event anymore, hurts waaaaay too much to hit the ground helmet or not. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Age 10, riding a friend's bike in and out of his dad's garage. He closed the overhead door before I was out. It was one of those one piece steel slab things. My head left a dent in the lower edge. Was kind of sick to my stomach for a couple of days. Never told the folks. Late 20s, walking in a hurry through an old basement. Was wearing a ball cap and talking to someone so never noticed a 6 foot high archway in the concrete wall. I was 6'3". Hit it at a fast walk. My feet kept going. I was laid out on the floor. Again nauseous for a few days. Bad headaches and a really sore neck for a few weeks. I try to be more careful these days. Best Les

I had one in 8th grade playing football. Mild, felt nauseous and unsteady, but never lost consciousness. Probably had one at some point playing rugby in college. Probably too drunk to notice. Had a small on on Thanksgiving this year from the accident. Headache, mentally checked out all day, very tired.

. Punched square in my face/nose/eyes by a kid who turned pro right after the Golden Gloves Nationals in Chicago, 1962. At least that's what I was told. . Also, high school football...out for a few plays. Been unconscious since.

Age 14, walking down the hall at school when a fist came out of a doorway and hit me on the forehead. He was going for my nose but I ducked a few inches. It was in Hawaii and it was another kill Haole day and I was 1/2 of the Haole population at Waipau middle school. I was laid out on the floor and I woke up to all the other kids laughing at me.
