its cold here too

Yesterday when working in the yard the sun went behind a cloud and it got so cold. It went from like 65 to 60 degrees. Plus I forgot to put on sunscrčen and burned my face a little. But it sounds pretty rough in your neck of the woods too.

We got 16 inches of snow here in the Flint/Genesee County area. I told my drivers to stay home until tomorrow. I started for the office around 9:30am but turned around due to the road conditions. It's not good if the "boss" puts himself in jeopardy. I am going to try again later.

Southwest Michigan here... we got 18" last night. 40+mph winds and the temp is currently 0deg (F). It's a bit nasty. Most roads are impassable with 3-4' drifts.

Snow!

50° here today and raining cats and dogs. Tonight supposed to be 0° which ought to be a real hoot with all the water around that's going to freeze.

-25F right now. It's pretty tough when surgeries are cancelled due to the cold.

It's pretty and there is some sun shining.

and at least you don't have to spread sand on it to get out.

"Sand" was not the first thing that came to mind when I saw that picture.

Didn't know there were so many fellow Wisconsinites here.

And from a couple years ago.

Took a drive to go to the gym (their website said they were opening at noon, but they changed their mind while I was en route). Most of the roads are plowed but it's too cold for salt to work. Unplowed roads were easier to drive as the plowed ones just left a glassy-smooth layer of snow.

Around 7 above right now and will get on down to around -20 tonight. That and around 5-6 inches of snow with a nice crunchy layer of ice underneath.

I suppose for those not prepared it could be dangerous. Years back we rode snowmobiles on the Mi Up and WI highways because the trails were impassable, coldest I recall was -30F temp (not windchill adjusted). Had barely a pinhole of vision on the fogged visor, steering and susp. joints locked. We carried small bottles of HEET and would pour it over the frozen parts. I once did a piston / ring replacement on a 3 cyl triple in -10F temp. Couldn't feel my fingers! Crazy days.

So today, thought I'd tune up some vintage wooden backcountry skis which led to looking for pine tar to purchase. Looking online and found this crazy story.

China hunters / skiers.
Deep In China, 'Cowboys' Have Skied For Thousands Of Years : NPR

But this isn't just about making it down the mountain: The skis are for hunting. In a region that can get temperatures of 40 degrees below zero, these hunters don't even know what frostbite is. In a single-file line, pulling sleds, the men search for elk — elk tracks are obvious in the snow because of the animals' heavy weight. On skis, they can track the elk for three to seven days.
