Thanks Rob! Let me know if you ever make it down to Phx, or if you want to come escape the cold!
I'm going to be in the GWN this summer, but Calgary, not BC. |

Interesting for sure.... Don't much care for the seats or the dash treatment.. And unless they did some suspension and brake work, a bug doesn't need more power.
I like the tag top though. That would be cool to have.

Nice looking '69! I took my drivers license test in my mom's '74 Super beetle back in 1975, then numerous 914s, bugs, busses, type 3s and even a type 4!
ACVWs are a whole 'nother huge sub-genre of gearhead culture. I prefer them fairly stock since there is virtually no way to make them handle and stop without getting into Porsche money. Also, building a great type 1 motor gets into 911 engine $$ almost immediately. THere is absolutely NOTHING that you retain from original when you build one; not the case/rods/crank/P&Cs/heads/etc....nothing. I had 2 '66 bugs in the early '90s that both got stolen on the street. I got the crap one back but the mint, olive colored stock one is gone forever.

Bugs are like Porsche's, original stock commands the higher prices, engines are a crap shoot not adding much value to the car. Many lie about their engine like a claimed 200hp really being at best 70hp.

I had a '58 and a '61 VW bug back in the 1960's. I could not imagine the old bugs with a big engine. You could only use the power in a straight line. On a bend too fast scary stuff. I miss the singing of the old stock engine and the straight pipes. Under powered but still fun.

No it was in AZ, the owner was a recent transplant.

So Sid, that affordable 996 thread got to you.
Or have you helped in placing some big $s car guys into new digs? Happy Holidays to you and family Cheers Richard |

Not looking to replace it with anything at the moment Richard. Just thinking about what is sensible, and its better to have less toys and less monthly expenditures and use that money to pay off some debt. More toys will come in the future!
