Competition for a cell signal or poor signal makes the phone constantly hunt. When I'm in Princeton I need to charge around 4-5 pm. Boca I can get to the end of the day. Dallas I can get 2 days easy out of the phone. Dallas is also where I use it heaviest. In 7 years in Dallas I've never had a dropped call from my end. Where I lived in NY I was lucky to make a 5 minute call without it dropping at least once.

I liked using my iPhone when it was running iOS 6 more than 7. But, iOS 7 is OK. No real problems. I shut down apps not in use. I try stay away from the iCloud as much as possible. Overall, the phone meets my needs. My wife is also happy with hers. Not fanboys, but overall, we're satisfied. stomachmonkey nailed it about power consumption vs. location. When we go hiking in the mountains, away from cell towers, our batteries drain faster unless we shut off our phones. The phone keeps trying to find a cell tower to talk to, even when one's not there.
I have no opinions about the other products out on the market. I guess they can have thread(s) of their own to be praised/panned.

I used to Jailbreak my iPhones but once iOS 7 came out, I no longer felt the need. Functionality, features, and ease of use are better than ever...and I like what John Ive has done... |

My issue was NEVER with YOU....... All I was getting at is if you need to turn off all the cool stuff it doesn't leave me with a very cool phone. Thanks for calling me a dick........ From your past posts here I assumed you to be a pretty cool guy. I will continue to assume you just read something in my response that was not intended. Have a nice day Mike

In iOS 7 I would get the apple screen often when unlocking my iPhone 5s. Would have to wait 5 seconds before I could unlock the phone. Never crashed the phone, but it was tiresome to see this happen once or twice a day. Since upgrading to iOS 7.1, this has not happened at all.
As for the coming samsung galaxy 5s - I heard they will have 4k cameras. Wow - that is crazy. A 4k camera in a consumer phone! That blows away the Nokia 41 megapixel camera out now. Hope they up the memory card max capability as well... -Z-man |

I apologize. I read the "very thoughtful of you" text as sarcasm and I see now that was not what you intended. Please accept my apology. Thank you, Scott |

It's somewhat moot anyway, as I suspect my basic Nikon D3000 DSLR will still take better pictures.

The only benefit of the super high resolutions is to let you crop the photo or make really big prints. The big limit on a 4K cell phone camera is the lens quality and artifacts on the tiny little camera sensor.
Any dedicated digital camera with a multi part lens will have better quality than a cell phone. Our Nikon D3 is just a 12 mega pixel camera but the sensor is the size of the 35 mm piece of film. It will beat the pants off of any cell phone photo especially in lower light conditions.

Well that's just crazy-talk, you iHater. ![]() Back around when the first iPhone came out, I was saying convergence at a 5 - 7" screen, with smaller versions for women (and dainty men.) -it's an ergonomic thing.

Perhaps Apple needs context-sensitive popups to provide little tidbits of info to people unwilling to do a little research on their own.

I have a Nexus 5 showing up today, and have a Nexus 3 that has been a demo device for the past year or two. In the house we have iPhone 4, 4s, and 5s. Comparing all of these, to me the 5s frankly is a pretty optimized form factor. At 6'1" I'm not exactly dainty, but it is easier to use the 5s one-handed than it is to use the Nexus. It also is more comfortable carrying around in pants pockets (smaller and lighter). It is however easier to deal with documents and web pages on the Nexus due to the extra screen real estate. No free lunch.

Agreed - can't stand the feel of the "oversize" phones (Galaxy et al). If I want a bigger image I use the iPad. That's what tablets are for.

seasonality and geography have impact on optimal size. That is, up north here, in the fall and winter, I throw even my 10.6" surface pro tablet into a jacket pocket. OTOH, When I travel to Hawaii, it's staying in the car or house. Warm climates mean small pockets - if any - which means small device is optimal.

Moderators,
Can you ban someone from participating in just threads involving Apple products?
