I've had them, but don't currently. I think they're fun.

In my gas pumping days there was a urologist with a PP DR plate.

They seem silly for all the reasons already posted and more. I might be tempted to put a plate with the car's year if old or indistiguishable (most people think a pristine '74 or even an '89 911 is much newer)...or a special year...like 1949 or 1965...but someone else probably already has the one...

There is a African America guy in my neighborhood with a black BMW M6 convertible. The license plate is..."1BAD NIG".
I always thought that was risky until I saw him out of the car at our community car show last August. He must be 6' 6" and 275 lbs. I think he can pull that off.

Not my style.
There was a black SC that used to live in a hanger at the Santa Ynez airport with the plate "JETWASH". Thought that was pretty cool. |

One of my ex girlfriends had a Nissan Maxima with "RUMAXED2" and kept getting pulled over because cops thought it was some drug reference. Or maybe because she couldn't drive worth crap.

I got that plate back in 1988 so yes, times have changed....I'm sure that I'd have a tough time keeping up with quite a few Toyotas, Hondas, etc....but, as I've generally slowed down somewhat since then, the way I see it, the plate works both ways now.....as I pass and,...as I'm being passed!

Nearly always corny in my book. Not bad if they're witty or relate to your rare car.

I don't currently have one but have had a few in the past. I had ROOM420 (Room for twenty) on my 78 VW bus. I had 2HEINYS (a play on my last name) on my 88 Jetta 16V. My wife has plates on order for her car currently. SVLYFE (Silicon Valley Life)
And last but not least, the plate on my Carrera that is now owned by a fellow Pelican. (Red Handed)

I know the girl at the DMV who gave me plates for my truck. She gave me random plates, but found one where four of the seven characters are zero.
Quite often, I see people staring at it trying to "get it". Very amusing. |

That's kinda funny, Dantilla.
Some plates are cute/clever, some are so mystical in meaning that they're too clever which is kinda lame. Personally I have no desire to give the gov't any more money than I have to. Plus I don't want to make myself any more identifiable than necessary.

Theres a dude I see now and then by my office, He drives a very nice, old Ford Falcon Convertible, his plate says "FALCON A". Cracks me up when I see him.

My '50 split has plates that say, "ANTEK 50". People stand behind the car, studying it for a while, then ask, "What year is it?"

Clever vanity plates are OK.
My old BMW 635 is "BFI09", an E34 5 series near us is "PANZER". But an M5 with "BMW M5"? Might as well be "W4NK3R"

Heh heh. No spellcheck at the CA DMV?

Depends on the car and the significance, IMO. Is it fitting?
For example, mine...
