Jaguar F Type R Coupe...

What do folks think?

Never had a British car...I may be swayed.

Rented a convertible F type in Germany back in December... Really a great car, never took it out of sport mode the entire week. Sounded, handled and behaved great. Drove the snot out of it on the Autobahn, great place to drive a car like that. I was staying in Frankfurt and drove it to the Porsche and BMW museums. Certainly got me thinking about buying a coupe! The last and only Jag I had was a '63 E-type, they are only related by name!

I'm hoping they will offer the F type with a manual transmission. Until then - I'm not interested.

It's a very porky car. The aluminum body structure is built, literally, like a tank. It's 3700 lbs, and just slightly larger than a Cayman. Compare that to about 2900 lbs for the new Cayman, which is an AL/steel hybrid body.

Now, it has gobs of horsepower to make up for that weight. And a cool V8 sound.

But seriously look at some of the reviews between the Jag and the Cayman... unless you are dead set on the looks of the Jag I see no reason to own it over the more than likely much better built, obviously better performing Porsche.

I'm not really in the market for another Porsche. Probably go with another 991 C2S if I stay with the brand. Just sort of bored with them.

I like the new Vantage a lot, but Jag has that V8 that may beat out the better fit and looks of the Aston.

Auto dilemma... nothing really inspiring. Cars have become just cars.

Beautiful car If it does it for you go for it.

My problem is I can't find a car that I want more than my daily (or my Porsche) ...
Which is a 20 year old Golf of all things!

But that sweet little VR6 just GOES.........

If you're in that mood about cars... no need to go out and buy something band new to try and fix it. Sounds like instead of something new, you really just need something interesting.

I think the F-Type is a looker in both convertible and coupe form. But as Mike mentioned, a comparable Boxster or Cayman is much more car for the money.

Wow, the F- type weighs 800 lb more than a 3.2 Carrera or a current Cayman! What is the reason? What is so overbuilt on the Jag, or is it all luxo-trimmings?

My guess is the V8 (550hp) is heavy and the dimension specs I saw were almost identical to a 991. In person, the coupe seems much bigger than a Cayman.

It didn't seem too luxoed out, but it did have a lot of glass.

Supposedly a stick and awd are coming to the f type shortly.

I feel the exact same way! I think the automakers have let down the core enthusiasts. The Subbie/Scion FRS thing is close but looks too much like a kid's car. Hyundai Genesis Coupe - same thing. The basics are there but looks like a boy racer car.

I love my ten year old daily 325i. A wonderful handling, basic sedan. No frills. I don't know what I'd replace it with...
