.

I think the guy couldent concieve that somebody would actually refuse an "asking" offer. He was probably just a straight shooter with intgrety and expected the same from the seller.

So you got greedy and are willing to sell a small part of your soul for a few $K?

If you can sleep at night, then you did the right thing. If it bothers you, then you didn't. Since you posted here, I'm assuming the latter. Best of luck with the decision.

The potential buyer says there is nothing wrong with the car. You absolutely know otherwise.
So you keep it, when offered full price?
Me confused.

The buyer is smarter than a CEL. Apparently.

Or the seller realized that the information he has about the state of the engine, and knows to be true, does not need to be disclosed.

It seems like you fault this guy for his honesty at least twice.

Sold a TR-7 to a guy out of state once.

Real low miles car that spent most of it's life in storage.

As I was prepping the car for delivery odd crap kept happening to it.

I kept the buyer up to speed on everything that was going on fully expecting him to either back out or renegotiate.

I drop the car at the Port Jefferson ferry where his nephew was going to pick it up and deliver to him.

I don't hear from the guy for a couple of days and figure he is pissed about something.

I finally call him to see what's up. Perfectly willing to refund all or some of his money if he mentions it.

The guy is frikken ecstatic. He's had a few over the years and thinks the car is damn near perfect.

Had not called cause he and the wife where out enjoying it, could not believe they finally found a keeper.

Never once occurred to me to ask him for more money.

This. You sound like an honest dude that may have had a mild lapse in judgement. Happens to all of us. The honest buyer could be right/wrong. Tell him you were wrong at that moment, you feel bad about it and let him have the car for 8k and call it a day.

Within 10 min of posting this ad, I got a dozen PMs telling me they were way under priced. After some internal debate I stuck by my original asking price.

+ a whole bunch!!! After reading the OP's posts over the past few years, I have NO doubt about Guy's integrity, so let's not continue to "dog pile" needlessly. I've certainly had some "mild lapses" before (....err some might call 'em MAJOR ), but when I've screwed up, I KNOW it in my gut, and I try to "make it right" whenever possible. Sometimes ya can't, but that's life...

ps: Guy, you asked for opinions from PPOT, and believe it or not, we've got 'em...you should be SHOCKED I tell ya

No one from Edmonton emailed to tell you it was seriously under-priced, maybe just like a $30,000 930?

Well Jim you were right! Some posts contained the words tacky, dogpile etc etc. This certainly caught my attention. I also used to ask members when they posted a question on the OT if the replies were counter to what they wanted did they comply with the respondents or go with what they wanted. The thread would typically fizzle out.

As for myself I have taken the recommended advice and approached the man who offered me full price. I sent him an email and it went something like this......

Hi, I want to apologize for my tacky behaviour. You offered me full asking price and and I turned it down. I can understand why you were upset. You said the car was in great shape but needs new sway bar links. However I have been informed on a car forum that the CEL light will likely come on again within a couple of days of driving.
If you still want the car for the asking price you can have it. If you don't want it I understand. It is your call. Sincerely, Guy.

When I get a reply from the prospective buyer I will let you know. I have no idea
what the outcome will be.

Cheers, Guy.

And the response I just received from the original offeror was "thanks for your reply. I have decided not to pursue this".

Am dogfree now. Thanks for all your replies.
Cheers, Guy.

There's nothing wrong with it. The prospective buyer already told him that.
