As men we are kind of funny !

I'm willing to admit as a man I can be viewed as odd or funny in my ways. I consider myself to be a real man, I DIY with the best of them. I wrench on my cars and guzzle beer at a pretty good clip . The latest example of being odd was today. Yesterday I had five yards of concrete poured. I paid to have it done but was hands on through the process. Today I walked on the new concrete and stood there with hands on hips surveying the greatness that is concrete ! My wife surely thinks I'm nuts. I was just proud for what ever reason and was strutting along on the concrete like I solved world hunger................................. we are an interesting collection of DNA. Tomorrow I plan on solving the worlds energy needs just not sure how . To all men I salute you !!!

the sense of accomplishment after building or fixing something is part of our DNA, I'm fairly certain. Sometimes even really simple stuff will do it.

Good for you.

Today, I replaced the rear wheel bearings in my Supra Chump Car. I also pressed out the lug studs to put in longer "race" studs. Then, I bent and ruined the first new one I pressed in.

Brilliant!!! Now I have to order another 10, because they don't sell singles.

I'm a manly man, and proud of it.

Earlier this week I hit the down button on the driver's side window in my Mazda. It went down about 6" and stopped. From there it would roll up 4", and that range of travel would not budge. Up 4"... down 4", stopping 2" short of closing all the way.

Came home and stripped off the door panel and removed the motor. I ran it back and forth a dozen times and then "click." It was free. Tested it a dozen more times and put it all back together.

Figured the hour I spent saved me around $400 - Dealer price for the new motor is $280, and I guesstimated book would have been 2 hours shop time for the job. I ordered a back up motor off of ebay for $30 in case mine dies for good.

I have numerous friends/family whose only choice would have been to drop the car off and the dealer and pay their price. The thought makes me cringe.

Thanks Dad, for making me hold the flashlight all those years!

And I don't think women understand that. They can sleep soundly while having no idea what is wrong with their broken car in the driveway. Men can't sleep until we have at least diagnosed the problem.

I traced the intermittent turn signal problem in my Speedster to corrosion in the copper connectors between the sub-harness from the turn signal switch and the main wiring harness. After hours of chasing the usual suspects I was giddy as a schoolgirl at finding this unusual failure. Fiancee did not understand why my mood had changed so dramatically in a matter of minutes.

Today I plan on pulling the concrete forms so another round of greatness will be achieved . Then I will attack the Boxster S which is stuck in reverse. If that goes well I will remove/replace the front bumper with a GT3 bumper I picked up. Today could be another day of male perfection if I play my cards right ! And I still have tomorrow to go !
In all seriousness I posted this mainly because I feel our style of " man " may be on the way out. Many of my co-workers will say to me " you are always working on something " while they are out doing whatever. I admit I do have a fair amount on my plate but this is how I was raised, if you can do the work yourself correctly then go ahead and do it. Spent many hours holding a flashlight or passing tools to my dad and learned a lot along the way. Loved every minute of it. Now don't get me wrong I don't do every repair myself even when I know I can do it. Example also yesterday I was tired of looking at the gear lubricant leak on my one ton dually pickup. I knew it was a rear axle seal but I just didn't want to deal with it. So I paid to have it done locally. So I do pick and choose. OK that's enough thanks to all that chimed in I really liked the road sign posted above

Yesterday I rebuilt my Mustang's carburetor with my son, mowed the yard, and drank some bourbon while watching football. Today would normally be spent on the lake, but since it's going to be windy I'll probably get the carb installed, rebuild the ignition switch, and enjoy a car that will finally start and run.

I often tell my wife that if I had been born a woman, I would have killed myself years ago.

Concrete cures stronger if you keep it damp for a week. It needs moisture to form limestone crystals.

I have been watering plus we had a good rain shower yesterday. The concrete dude said I could drive my truck camper rig onto the slab tomorrow but I'm going to wait a week just to be safe.

My daughter is 28. She often asks me "What Happpened?" regarding males. She says there's no real men anymore, none like me, her uncle, grandfather, my friends, etc.
I told her I was sorry it was like that, and that it takes a man to raise a man.

Um. Yesterday I put on tight clothes and rode a bicycle. Then I had a pour over coffee and, caution to the winds!, a latte. In the afternoon I made dumplings and read The Economist. Today I will take my kids to a vintage clothing store, go vegetable shopping, and visit my hairdresser. It is good to be a man!

Salute to Tim "the toolman" taylor - YouTube

Traci just does not understand and she is always asking my why I keep my plate so full.
Sitting back and enjoying the rewards of finished up project , all the while planning out my next adventure is my drug. I live for it . I love to tackle new things that I have never done before, and have no business trying. The satisfaction of completing something hard is very rewarding to me

I can identify with this sentiment.
I built my house 33 years ago, doing everything myself except for the foundation, most of the plumbing and electrical entrance.
The more buildings I put up, the easier it gets, but that was my first.
Last spring, after combing the local version of Craigslist, I found a hay mowing machine which was in need of TLC, but was cheap enough to make it worth the wager.
Now after rebuilding the plate under one of the drums and three bearings later it cuts great in light and medium crops.
I got my Miata the same way. A friend was going to part it because of the small nose crank failure. I bought it, did the "Locktite repair" and have been driving it for almost two years.
Best
Les
