How about that Shoshana Roberts
Beautiful, curvy actress Walking down the city street with hidden camera and, lo and behold, she gets a lot of comments from guys. The video goes viral on youtube as a warning example of the male primitive aggressive chauvinistic approach to women.
I am not really sure what to Think of it. What say the eminent pelican board? Very sorry, could not make a link stick but just google or youtube her name. Easy to find.

It just reaffirms something that all women know - men are pigs.

I'd say it highlights a certain hypocrisy among men. I lived near a gay community in Chicago called Boystown and can tell you first hand - men on the receiving end of that sort of attention don't handle it well at all, even with less to fear than some tiny woman.

Constant, unwanted attention would be awful. I sympathise.

Sure, are there some that are rude, scary and over the line? Yep. Were a lot of them very mild and to me seemed unoffensive? Yep "Have a good day, miss", "how are you doing" and "hey, what's up girl." Hmm, are those an instances of harrassment? Do women really find that offensive? Or would it matter who was making the comment? OK, the guy may not say that to every woman, but just saying hello to someone attractive shouldn't be a problem. And I'm not defending it because I do it myself. I don't talk to people on the street attractive or not. At the same time, I suspect many women would be unhappy if they didn't get some of that. As men, we are often expected to be (by women) assertive.

If she was in downtown Manhattan or Toronto she would likely not be harassed. The areas she was walking through were probably not the best. Any decent man or woman would not walk in dubious areas. Common sense. Probably done to get hits - video hits that is.

Since when are comments like the following considered to be harassing? "How are you this morning" "Have a nice evening" "Hello good morning" "God bless - have a good day" "How you doing - good?" "What's up miss?" "How you doing?" "Have a nice evening darling" The end of the video states: "100+ instances of verbal street harassment took place within 10 hour..." While there were some inappropriate comments and some creepy folks there -- based on what I saw on the video, I'd say that the majority of the comments were harmless hellos, and not harassing. Methinks this woman is a little full over herself and judges others - and categorizes everyone as being harassing even when they just say hello. Get over yourself lady... What's next? This?

Most of those guys would probably the first to jump in and defend her were anything to happen.

I'm not a hot woman. So pure speculation here. I often hear ladies complain about cat calls. They have to like it at some level. What if it magically stopped? I think they would wonder what is wrong with them.
I once got cat called by a group of gay guys. I admit mixed feelings ![]()

I don't see a beautiful woman, just some fat ass. I wouldn't give her the time of day. Some of the commits are overpowering, but I bet she loves it. Many of people were just saying hi and were polite about it. I'm sure there were many edits to this and any woman who said hello were cut out. I guess she just is a snob, who is full of herself, for no reason that I can see.

Yeah, it's a fairly disingenuous video.
Those are the spliced together "highlights" after walking the streets for TEN HOURS (show it in real time and see how uninteresting it would be). In what looks like a "blue collar" area of NYC. Wearing a very tight tee shirt. And, most of the comments were not "harassing" at all, just plain "hellos" and "how are you". Pretty weak. |

Having a guy walk next to her and talk is a little alarming. She should have pepper sprayed him.

Yep, this is why there are so many ugly, fat women today. They are just doing it to avoid the attention. Not to discriminate, the guys are the same way.

I saw most of the comments as welcoming some sort of interaction, the majority not being very courteous when taken in context and as a whole though.
For instance "there goes a thousand dollars" could be a reference to a prostitutes fee/value. I bet there were many more flattering and friendly comments, but they did not make the editor's cut as they would not further the agenda being promoted here. An acknowledgment of one's presence is often welcomed, and being treated as invisible is not. I suppose much of the street commentary would depend on who is giving the attention. A well dressed and handsome man saying "well - hello there" would be expected to be more charming and acceptable than some guy with a backpack and tattered hip hop clothes saying "well - hello there". Did she ever smile? Thirty years from now I suspect this woman will miss some of the attention, certainly not all of it. .................................................. .............................................. I should note that on a recent Porsche fall color tour I found myself in a somewhat awkward situation. A mile down the road from the last p-car stop (a cider mill out in the country) is a truck stop/gas station mini-market (very rural/blue collar). My buddy and I used the toilet rooms and we walk out at the same time as these two young women, which are dressed way more fancy/upscale (and sexy?) than what normal cider mill apparel would require. I sort of felt like I had to acknowledge their presence, to at least avoid dinging doors as they had parked next to us. I waited so they could open their doors first even though they exited the building after us. I said something like; "where are you girls going all dressed up like that?" They looked over at me and they both hustled into their car like I had offended them. I live in a college town where you can talk to complete strangers, be it in line at the coffee shop or just about anywhere. It applies to all ages, not just college folk. How come everyone outside of a college town is so stuck up? The posted video would had been a waste of time if filmed in a college town, you would just think she knew everyone or was invisible.

It's only unwanted attention because the guys don't look like Chris Hemsworth.
Change them all to wealthy guys with killer stubble, and she wouldn't be complaining. I'll admit that I might be a bit cynical, but I think that women are just as hypocritical and sexist as men.
