Anybody experienced benign enlarged ...

prostate gland. My psa is normal but have not been able to have a decent pee for about 5 days. My GP gave me Tamsulosin Hydrochloride which apparently relaxes the muscles and helps me to pee. The doc said on Friday, that if I did not pee by Saturday I should go to Emergency and get a catheter. Well I can pee a bit but not enough to void the bladder. Hence much discomfort and am staying close to the potty and the computer! Particularly would like to hear from anybody experiencing this and what was your long term fix. Will get in to see the doc tomorrow. Any Doctors out there with any ideas to help would be appreciated.

Man, that's a pisser.

Sorry, couldn't help. I think the best advice you're going to get on a Sunday is Google.

oh, so sorry to hear you are in discomfort! And you don't want your bladder to be not fully emptied because you can run into other issues. I have seen patient's blood pressure go up because they are such discomfort from a full bladder. Definitely go get a catheter if you continue to feel discomfort. I know it doesn't sound fun but you will be so much more comfortable.

Your next step might be a TURP. A transurethral resection of the prostate that clears the path that is blocking the urine. Look it up.

Again so sorry for your discomfort! Hope you feel better and get a catheter if it doesn't get better!

SP here too. One each evening. Seems to take about a week to get into your system but worked for me.

Sounds painful! Wish I could help. I have the opposite problem. PSA levels are "bad" but no symptoms. I wish you well.

Uroxatral was the only thing that helped me. After about 2 years it settled down and I was able to taper off. BPH runs in my family.

Yes thank goodness for tweezers. Have avoided the emerge. and catheters so far. I have taken SP but this is beyond that. I will try and see the doc today and if unable will weaken , get the catheter thing done and look like the walking dead rather than just feel like the walking dead. The pills the doc prescribed last Friday have not really helped yet but do relax the muscles somewhat. If I do have to have an op. this spring, then golf will have to be postponed but I can still drive the heck out of my Boxster. Thanx everybody for your suggestions.

My dad had that 2 years ago. He said it hurt like a *****, but was also not happy for waiting so long. I expect it is in the cards for me...

Yes they say most men before they pass on experience some degree of enlarged prostate gland. It is insidious. It is like a tap slowly being turned off if it is not rectified. Dr. Plumber to the rescue. Thank goodness for the professionals. I have 100% admiration for the medical profession. My gp is a great guy. I said to him what would u like to have been if you were not a doctor. He said a jet pilot. I said I am glad you chose to be a doctor

Yep, modern medical science is amazing. Something as simple as a prostate problem killed a lot of men over the centuries.

One of my dad's neighborhood friends died from teatnus. He stepped on a rusty nail.

I don't know how this system works. I got a notification from a regular here about my post and I don't know how to respond to a notification. He was asking if I would consider having my prostate removed. In a word, no. I got a biopsy every year for two years, now I get one every other year. Four times I've had the needles stuck in my butt and every time it comes back negative. I have no symptoms and no cancer, just high PSA numbers. Thank you for your concern.

Hey, just because I don't have one doesn't mean that I don't care!

Yes, a TURP can be painful but thank goodness for great drugs. And it will so improve your quality of life. It seems like a small thing but after you have it, you will realize how all the issues you had with the enlarged prostate were beyond annoying.

Even if your biopsy came up positive, it depends on the stage of prostate cancer if there would even be any intervention. If you catch it early enough and it is slow growing, the side effects of medically treating it and risks of surgery don't outweigh just riding it out. I had a patient who had it for over ten years and didn't do a thing about it except take SP. He died of his cardiac issues. And a majority of the time, elevated PSA levels are just that. Elevated. Something to watch for sure, but that's it. Keep doing what you are doing.

Yes, for most men, if we live long enough will develop prostate ca. The vast majority will die with it rather than from it. Early detection gives you more options.

Well thanks everybody for listening to my p column. P used to stand for Porsche now it stands for pee. Doc says I should go to the Emerg. and get a catheter installed. He said that I withstood enough abuse for too long and would be more comfortable with the catheter for about 3 days. Bye for now!

Two 1,200 mg per day. About three years, it just sort of helps relieve a slight pressure sensation. With a few beers in me, I can still piss mostly over some small car in the parking lot of the local bar.
