Overheard in the parking lot just now
A lady walking by my car with her son, maybe 4 or 5 years old: "that's an old-school porsche, back when porsches were cool".

I'm quite sure she was flirting with you. Did you get her number?

Shortly after I bought my brand new 1974 914 2.0 in Montgomery, Alabama I went for a drive in the country. I had no destination except to find some fun roads.
I needed gas and I saw there was a open gas station so I stopped and filled it up. As I was pumping gas I saw two little boys about 8 years old watching me from the corner of the building. They came closer and one boy elbowed the other boy and said "Lookie there, that there is a real race car!" It was one of the few times in my life I was the cool guy. ![]() The population is 282 according to Google from of the 2010 census so I presume it has not grown much in 41 years.

Did she at least pronounce it "pour-shaa" instead of "porsh"?

I had that happen one day as the dad is dragging his daughter over excitedly saying that car has a stick shift. That poor child had no idea what he was talking about but he was just too excited to show her.

The newer ones are what we call traffic. Silver boxsters and 996s are as common as Toyotas in Toronto.

I can't believe no one has asked the obvious: was she hot?

Just the opposite with me once, I had my 89 Targa at a car show and a woman and her two daughters walked by, the one said look mom, a red Porsche like ours, mom said oh no, ours is a new one.

Funny stuff ^. I've had a few interested young folks sit in the drivers seat to try it on for size, easy to forget how exciting it can be for young up and coming car guy just to get to check it out.

With one of "each" now, I have to say I thoroughly appreciate both. My '72 track rat 3.0 liter MFI twin plugged hot-rod is an absolute hoot, but so is my '02 Boxster - in completely different ways.
Us old school air-cooled "snobs" need to come to grips with the fact that the newest air-cooled Porsche will soon be 20 years old. Even as a dyed-in-the-wool old school air cooled R Gruppe guy (PacWest Chaptermeister for about 8-9 years), I have to say it - 996's, 986's, and the like are the future for us low-budget Porsche hot-hot-rodders. They are cheap, reliable, easily modified, and faster than our beloved air-cooled cars. That said, however, the last car I will ever sell is the '72 - too much in the way of blood, sweat, and tears expended on that one...

I get more thumbs up from the younger crowd in my Cayman than I ever did in my SC.

Funny how that works. The more sweat (and blood) equity you have into your car, the more difficult it is let go.

Jeff- I don't disagree with you, but the point of the post was that a young boy liked the old car! Sometimes young eyes see things for what they are = cool.
My caveat is that I have been blessed with two wonderful under 10 yr girls who couldn't give a schist about anything that rolls- unless its a 7seater that will transport them and their new BFF's to netball practice.
