Now in 993 land ...

Sometimes life makes the decisions for you! This is good - I thought the NP was the better job for you from the get-go. The F500 would have been a constant struggle to be relevant, stay employed etc. where a small company genuinely needs you and put the red carpet out for you.
I have worked at one F500 company. It sucked donkey balls and was the only job in my life that I got blind sided and was affected by a mass layoff, shutting down an entire factory. G |

Congratulations.
FWIW, the CFO title has more future value than whatever you would have been at that F500.

Congrats! I made the switch from large corporate CFO/VP roles several years ago and my life has become much more balanced as the CFO/COO in the non profit world. More fun time, family time and less stress. The real nice part though has been working with people that have a mission in life beyond $'s. In my current role I work every day with counselors and therapists helping kids in the foster care system and they are an interesting and caring group of people. You'll get good experience here that can translate into other roles in the future.

I find being in control is satisfying.
I find being controlled to be very unpleasant. If your brain is wired like mine you took the right job.

Congrats! I think you'll find the working for the NP more satisfying regardless of whatever the actual day-to-day tasks are.
Regarding the F500's broken promise, if you have any documentation of even an inkling of an implied offer, you may have some leverage to make them buy you out. Working for a F100 and having interviewed hundreds of people, I have been reminded multiple times by our legal dept that there can't even be the slightest hint of an implied offer until the candidate gets an official offer directly from HR. Not even an off-hand "It'll be great working with you!" I'm not a lawyer, blah blah blah.

This week one called about a position I interviewed in-person and was turned down for five mos. ago. I gave my interview notes to a friend who applied and he got hired! But he's miserable and they way overpromised on income. So I'm glad I didn't get it. Anyway, I reminded this recruiter that I was already turned down for this job once, but she still wants to talk to me about it. WTF?

Rick if you think you are blacklisted, why the hell would you want to work there? Lifes too short, I'd drop it and move on. Clearly someone doesn't want you there, what makes you think if you force your way in, they won't be trying to push you out at every chance?

Rick, you're not blacklisted. You're a victim of the F500 trend to hire not by ability but by skin color and plumbing. Whenever we try to hire someone HR insists that THEY provide us a list of resumes to screen. There is never a single Caucasian, Asian, or Indian male name in the stack. Instead there are lots of minimally- or completely unqualified candidates that have some meaningless keywords that vaguely match up with the requirements for the job listing.
Inevitably we end up getting resumes passed to us from outside of the "system" that we then have to force through the hiring process just to get an interview. It sucks.

Well, the CFO title didn't happen. But, I don't have CFO experience either, so that's okay. The official title is "Accounting and Financial Coordinator." I'm lobbying for a change to "manager" instead of "coordinator" before business cards are ordered and a press release goes out. Yes, I'll be the subject of a press release this week.

Will you have anyone working under you Lee? I see a manager as someone who has direct reports. Why not financial and Accounting Director?

Congrats Lee! Interesting to read the experiences and perspectives on this thread...that's why I like PPOT. Sure am glad I'm not in "the game" anymore though
![]() Though I obtained one position via a headhunter in my mid 20s...as I climbed the ladder I observed something over and over. Though a recruiter "might" get you in the door...it is just as likely that using a HH "might" actually shut down any chance you have...use them with caution IMO. Even F500s "can" move at lightening speed, and create a "position" if a desirable candidate appears on their radar. Pros and Cons to F500 vs smaller IMO, but if you are experienced and really talented, it doesn't really matter IMO....cream rises to the top regardless of the size of the container ![]() |

Agree - I think you'll be much more fulfilled in a meaningful position in a small company than being another expendable corporate cog. Congrats!

A manager can manage people or things... "project manager' is a good example.
