Your driving is more likely to hurt or kill someone than a mountain lion.
My point was, the original hiker was in more danger from a mountain lion attack than a Porsche making a legal, within the vehicle code passing maneuver, more than 100ft from him and his kids.

And I have successfully refuted your claim.

My God. So much political correctness on this site.

Is this the Bernie Sanders forum?

Childish? Yes.
Any harm done? No (perhaps to the image of Porsche drivers)
Good writing? No

I am more worried about the environmental impact of the Prius batteries.

If I had a euro for every time some over-protective dad shielded his children from my oncoming Porsche at 30kmh I could buy a new one.

My country is full with haters. Do not go that way please.

Funny thing is that small family saloons are over-represented in the accident statistics. Must be because they are all trying to avoid reckless P-drivers.

Using Labrador Retriever grade statistics, I refute your claim, I have been driving for more than 40 years and never injured anyone, whereas the mountain lions have killed several people in the same time frame.

Vereeken, no kidding! I just read three pages of this mess in a few minutes, and I see nothing at all wrong with what CCB did. Nothing. However, somebody sure was quick to jump all over him for scaring some hikers on the side of the road with his loud exhaust. And then the personal attacks began, like a pack of dogs after their cornered prey.

I know that road he was on very well. It has great sight lines. He set up to pass another car. He set it up at the apex of the corner, but pulled out on the straight with a clear sightline. He passed some hikers on the side of the road who were startled by the noise of the exhaust at a mere 5000 RPM.

You guys stretch this situation to the limit and call him unsafe? Sorry folks, that did not sound unsafe in any way.

Just because some people were startled by the noise of the car does not make the maneuver or the driver unsafe. It is a non-sequitur. CCB was simply enjoying his car on a nice winding road, and pulled out and passed a car in front of him, and enjoyed the moment and the sound of his exhaust. I would too.

Unless you guys have never pulled out to pass somebody on a straightaway with your louder car, then you all sound like a bunch of judgmental hypocrites.

And, yes, I know CCB from this and another forum (although we've never met personally). He can be grating at times, but he's no young stupid kid. Far from it, actually.

(on a personal note, I used to frequent this forum regularly from '04 to about '08 or so, less so these days. Back then, it was very common for guys to post stories just like this on the Tech forum for all to enjoy - and almost all of us did. What the heck has happened to this forum these days?)

Yeah, this isn't the old forum where virtually no arguing occurred.

You are extremely defensive for someone who thinks he is right. Hell, you are extremely defensive for someone so old. But then you are also pretty childish for someone so old. And I don't even think you did anything wrong.

Jeez Matt, can't a guy have some fun stirring up the pot? Not defensive, just mashing the status quo up a bit. I was bored, and a few on the forum never fail to deliver.
Did you think that the original post was for anything other than pure entertainment? It's called bait, the hook set nicely as well.....although it took 3 pages before delicate sensibilities called for the mods.

What a waste of server space. Next time lets just agree to only "think" about posting a worthless thread like this and proceed no further. Just think about what could've been. Lion statistics, sight lines after a corner in Co, scared parents, all this is "so" Pcar technically over my head that this needs to be studied by the engineers at Stuttgart. I'll call, how bout u?

I thought about it before I posted, I did, you took the bait, and here we are.
'What a long, strange trip it's been"
Heck, we even got Matt to post on something other than trans stuff, mission accomplished!

I don't care about your little metaphorical water balloon fight here. The thread simply needs to be moved to Off Topic. Or, was there something with even a hint of technical content you wanted to post?

Its called counter trolling. I knew where it was going when I came to the defense of the poor persecuted lions. Visit Marketplace sometime. Ronnie and Bob Kontak and Silber(on time out currently for asshattery) have a grand old time. And Rich Gas. I can't forget Rich. I'm just usually a bit more on topic in tech where things are more heavily regulated.

Does the act of simply replacing a stock exhaust with a less restrictive header exhaust automatically increase horsepower? Or does the engine need to be re-tuned or rechipped to take advantage of the new exhaust? I would think the latter since the engine timing and cam is the same as it always was, right? Is it like having a larger diameter garden hose but not turning the faucet any higher? To take advantage you need to turn up the faucet?
it depends on many things.

This is a great primer. Header Basics - How Headers Contribute to Horsepower - Car Craft Magazine

The tuning part is a bit beyond my understanding, but in short if you put on an optimized header, that reduces back pressure at the exhaust valve. Thus exhaust gasses exit more easily at peak torque. This lessens exhaust gas contamination in the combustion chamber. The denser air/fuel then burns faster. This allows a reduction of timing, and thus lessens your combustion fighting against the piston as it travels up to tdc. This improves efficiency of the engine, giving moe power. Thus tuning to the new exhaust is needed for ideal power.
