My bride and I have been playing this game some many years. Countless times I will be sitting in the car waiting after she has said, "yes, I am ready lets go". Now I patiently wait on the couch until she has done the preflight ADD checklist. It includes feeding cats, unplugging toasters, reapply makeup, calling her sister etc........

It was really maddening and she will still trick me sometimes by leaping from the car while still in the driveway to check on something she thinks she forgot only to find it in her purse.

Patience and leaving in separate cars to functions that I must be on time to are my solution. There is no 'fixing" this.

I used to have a similar problem.
To solve it, I simply started to be the one who was 'late'.
Do that enough times and if she's smart, she'll get the message and soon she'll be the one saying 'C'mon dear, we're gonna be late'.

Yeah I was just sorta having fun! I guess i touched a nerve.

Ms Gogar has to make sure each door is locked. 3 times. If you interrupt her or tell a joke she has to start over. Pretty time consuming for a 7000 sqft house. I think my jokes are funny.

Sounds Obsessive Compulsive... I just have to go check on the stove 7 times to make sure I turned it off. Then I have to check the front door 4 times to make sure I locked it...

You just figured that out...my friend Sandy and her friend beotiched at me for driving too slow...

TABS time is always 20 minutes late...as I said I operate on TABS time and not clock time. When I get there is when I get there. Now I just warn people in advance.

The entire civilized world runs on UTC. If an event is scheduled to begin at a certain time no one asks if it is some BS time like Tabs time or Monty Python silly time. We all know they mean UTC, or at least anyone with brains and above a grade school ability to read.

The play starts at a certain time, the movies start at a time, dinner reservations are made for a certain time. You can chose to ignore the time, or go with the rest of the civilized world. I would guess the stone age tribes in the jungle use some made up local time and that works for them because they are not invited to the stage play scheduled to start at 9:00 PM.

I am just being considerate in trying to allay the anxiety of those who have anal fixations about time. I am never the less still moving at my own pace.

Typical anxiety driven defense mechanism of the anally fixated in trying to justify why they have to be on time all the time. This shows rigidity in thinking, of being stuck in the box.

This is a real sticking point betweeen my wife and I as well. I like being 5 minutes early anywhere I go, and I travel light, and plan ahead. I try to give her a 30 minute, and 15 minute warning, but invariably, for some reason or another, we don't leave the house until we are 5-10 minutes late. I pride myself on being punctual, and being a man of my word, but swallow my words when she is coming with me.

I think it may be a control thing to show the world that she is in charge, and can't be dictated to. She certainly isn't lazy, but just rather flippant about showing up on time.

I really believe that some people love the chaos that goes along with being late... It really lets you know you are alive. (and late)
I would rather sit in the car at my destination and wait because I have arrived early than rush around like a crazy person and have to apologize for being late.

I have a good buddy whose wife is sometimes over an hour late for dinners/get-togethers. We live within walking distance. It's to the point where we (and other friends of theirs) don't invite them anymore. The last time we invited them (and two other couples), he showed up on time by himself. We ate dinner without her. I didn't ask where we she was even though there was clearly a place for her at the table. She was an hour and half late. She was to bring an appetizer. When she did show, she brought the ingredients and started looking for bowls and utensils to make it. The rest of us looked at each other in amazement. I poured her a glass of wine and mentioned we finished dinner already. Awkwardness ensued. We still marvel at the balls on that woman.

While I understand that not all is in your control and sometimes it can't be helped, being on time shows basic respect for those who you have made plans with. I used to be late often and people resented me for it. As an adult I changed my ways. Habitual lateness is a passive show of arrogance and narcissism.
