Anyone have data on how often Army personnel actually fire their pistols in anger?
Not talking Special Forces. I mean the regular Army officers and enlisted to whom the new pistol will be issued. My sneaking suspicion is that which pistol is selected by the Army might be one of the least important procurement decisions that we ever hear about.

I have a Sig 220 and a 227 both in .45ACP and I have found them to be very accurate and easy to clean. Having just moved to Gallatin Tenn. I can now get a CCW permit and I will carry one of those that is for sure.

It always cracks me up to see new service pistols, be they military or police, put through "endurance tests". They are simply not being tested in the manner in which they are used.
A more realistic and useful test regimen would be to see how they work for the first few shots after being forgotten in a holster for an extended period. How they work when the oil has dried out and turned to goo, maybe mixed with a little sand or dirt or lint or all of the above... No one shoots their guns as much as civilians, especially match shooters. I would put trap or "2700" (standard NRA pistol) competitors at the head of that pack. No one shoots as much as those guys. Does that make their choices "best" for military or law enforcement? Hardly.

Grandpa said, Pistols are for clubbing drunk enlisted men and dealing with angry pimps. Then maybe combat.
