My brother is riding it out in the Rice dorms with a bunch of other students. He went to his apartment (2nd floor) but there were guys kayaking around the building and the first floor was flooded so that was a no go.

I'm reading that the large majority of people in that area don't have flood insurance. There's going to be terrible suffering.

Texas senators voted against federal aid for Hurricane Sandy victims in 2015. I wonder if East Coast legislators will repay the favor.

Any more details on this one?? Hope it is not real, or they have been moved out.

My best guess is that we are 12-18 hours to uncontrolled release of flood water, which means the dam is full. My neighborhood will start flooding at that time.

IF IF IF the flood map is correct, my house is OK. I need to get to the office and start moving essential equipment. The MAP shows my office is also OK, but you never know.

Don't trust the flood maps James. Locally, I know where subdivisions have been built in rural areas.....when I was a kid around '70, I vividly remember those areas becoming deep lakes one Sunday afternoon too . They're not in a flood zone either...be safe!!!

These were made in the past year, based on the data from the actual floods.

And those flood maps will be different after Harvey....count on it. My eastern NC college town was absolutely devastated last year during the aftermath of Matthew...when I attended, many of the areas became "lakes" one afternoon during localized heavy rains and a rising river....not hard to predict what Matthew was gonna do either imo as the rain fell...

Be well and safe guys!!!

was real. Daughter of owner tweeted the pics after her mom called for rescue of her residents several times and was told no one could come. Many on oxygen, most in wheelchairs. Were told to shelter in place and have a disaster plan.

The management of that home should all face charges for not having a plan in place to evacuate those people.

read the story before you pass judgment. Owner was told not to evacuate but have a disaster plan. Shelter in place was the directive

I guess I should modify my favors statement, as they did get the families with young children and older folks out late yesterday afternoon. Only a 24 hour layover!

Thank God that my kids did get back home with only that delay.
Prayers for those still in the weather.

Homes can be rebuilt, cars replaced. Just stay safe, everyone.

I know TV loves to dramatize...but...Jesus, this is bad.

We stayed above the flood at our house but I noticed some neighbors only a couple blocks away with water to their front door. Fortunately our area drains quickly so it was back down within a few hours.

The rain gauge at work which is at I-45 South and Beltway 8 shows over 31" since Friday with a max of 6.06" an hour Saturday night between 22:30 and 23:25.

Heard from family on the westside/memorial area that the Bunker Hill HEB is open and stocked. Long lines though.

Hey guys! I'm checking in, everything is OK at my place we've been dodging bullets at my house for the last 24 hours but the next 24-30 hours could be interesting based on if Harvey decides to go out to the Gulf and pick-up some more moisture and dump it over us.

The 930, the 951, the 560SEC, the Datsun etc are all ok, and sitting 24" in the air...the house is ok too.

Its been nail biting.

I've lived through some weather in my 46 years but this is literally the high water mark...pardon the pun!
Prayers to all.
Yasin
