Nice car, and ya reversing McGyver'ing by the PO to save $.50 and 10 extra minutes they would've spent doing it the right way gets old.
I avoid most DIY'd cars for that reason.

I had an 82 GTV-6 Balocco edition I sold last year. Fun car to drive and the Busso engine sounds great.

I foolishly bought a GTV/6 brand new back in 1983. It was easily the worst automotive purchase I made before or since, and that includes several British cars. Yes it was a great drive when it worked which was maybe 50% of the time. It was plagued with electrical gremlins, leaking head gaskets, and the infamous weak second gear synchro all during the first year of ownership. Two Alfa dealers couldn't fix the issues, and Alfa corporate basically told me it was my problem and not to bother them. Needless to say I unloaded that POS before my second year of suffering was complete. I've occasionally wondered what became of it and the poor souls that were later stuck with it. Anyway I didn't mean to be a downer, and I hope your experience is as good as mine was bad.

There is an outrageously nice '74 GTV on BAT right now. Final gavel-drop price guesses, anyone?

A buddy of mine is stockpiling the Calloway versions. He's up to 4 or 5 now along with the some body panel molds. They are beautiful cars from the outside. Interiors are painfully 80s.

I also have to admit that the dash did not wear well - it is severely cracked. I have a fix, but it'll have to wait until I source a replacement dash, so I can work on it out of the car. the ergonomics are hilariously Italian - from the driver's normal position, it is impossible to see any of the speedometer that matters on American roads.

I was about to remark that this was the twin to my Dad's 76 (I believe it was called a GTV that year in Canada), and then I noticed the hood bulge and read your signature. The lack of a body kit and the small bumpers -- belissimo! Did you do it, or was it an import from Europe?
My Dad's was such a great car, except for the rust, and reliability. But it earned me I Instant street cried in our predominately Italian neighbourhood in Toronto. Street cred I sorely needed having moved from a small Ontario town, in 1982, and was rooting for West Germany in the World Cup against, you guessed it, Italy. |

Don't kid yourself, I've corrected some ridiculous stuff by "professional" mechanics too.
