Not A Convertible Guy But Bought One Anyway

Price and condition was just too good to pass up, plus I always admired these R129s, older brother approves!

Its a '98 SL500 with 78k, one owner with two key options the Sport package (body Kit and Monoblocks) and the Xenon Ellipsoid headlights.

The funny thing is that I'm not a convertible guy either, but this is the list of cares that I've had for the past 19 years, '88 911 targa, '97 miata, '04 Mazdaspeed Miata, 08 Boxster S RS60 Spyder. I guess I should be or maybe I am now by common law a convertible guy.

Cool cars, BTW. I've always loved the Merc SLs of every generation, at least visually. I've never driven one or been in one.

Man, that's a nice r129. I have a 96 sl600 in the same color, but the AMG body kit on yours looks amazing. I also have a c140 s600 coupe. Brothers from different mothers.

Now go find yourself a pano roof, and prepare yourself to get to know the great folks at Top Hydraulics.

Nice! I've always loved the sport package cars with the monoblocs and the side grilles. It's really only sort of a convertible, if you never put the top down most people wouldn't even know.

Btw, where do you keep all of this stuff? If I'm keeping it straight you now have the SL, SLC, 951, 323 GTX, and 323 GT?

Thanks Matt...I keep it all at home, I have a large detached garage - fortunately! You're missing a few on that list

Sadly...I just sold the 323 GT after 15 years!

Obviously I'm behind the news a bit! Or I just can't remember that many cars.

Sorry to hear about the 323 GT, let me know if you want to sell the GTX.

What, you have kidney to trade him or something?

Buddy of mine got one of those a few years after they came out, '94 maybe. We all were sitting around talking about cars, guys talking about reliability, positive reviews, fuel economy and what not as reasons for their choices.

Dan said, "I got it because it looks cool, makes a great noise and is really fast."

Will do Matt (what's a nice GTX worth anyway??), here's a great little video I shot of my GTX testing the Go-Pro too:

I haven't the slightest damn clue, they aren't exactly everywhere. Love those things though, something about 1980s rally cars has always done it for me.
