I hate sunscreen...
I am fair skinned and burn very easily. One of other realities if living in 2018 is that I have to wear sunscreen when I go outside in the summer.
I hate how it makes me feel slimy and any dust clings to it and makes me look and feel filthy. You guys that live in warmer climates than Canada - what do you wear to keep from getting sunburnt?

Never used sun screen. Light clothing and moving around, not sun bathing.

Long sleeves, hats, sunscreen mainly on the face.
Trust me, any hassle is far better than not doing so and risking treatment for skin cancer.

I wear Columbia PFG long sleeve shirts all the time in summer when I am outside. They work really well and are comfortable. I also wear wide brimmed hats. Having survived stage 4 melanoma and loving the outdoors, I wear as much protection as I can.

Dude, you live at the top of the world. That doesn't count. Come hand out in South Florida, Houston or San Diego for June, July and August. You can move around all you want, but if you spend much time outside, you'll get tan/burned. There's just no escaping it if you spend much time outside closer to the equator.

My mom just had a cancerous growth removed from her ear.
I was out loading the camper yesterday afternoon/early evening and can feel that I got a bit too much sun... I should be a little smarter at this point in time....

There are lots of clothes that you can buy that are outdoors specific clothes that offer sun protection. Places like REI will have clothes that offer protection. Also, places that sell clothing for runners or outdoor activities. We started running 3 months ago. We will be running outside in Houston occasionally, and we are both fair. We just recently bought some very light-weight shirts with long sleeves (and hoods) that offer UV protection for running. Even then, we won't be running midday. We'll stick to morning or evening, and we'll have sunscreen on our faces

Columbia has lightweight synthetic clothing with a good SPF factor.
I go long sleeve almost every time I fish in the summer now.

If I remember correctly the SPF rating on sunscreen is not tested and verified by anyone. The manufactures of the crap can put any rating they want on the bottle.

I share your ultra white problem with the sun. I also have a problem that anything I put on my face within three inches of my eyes, wicks into them when I sweat even a tiny amount. Sunscreen burns horribly. I also spent 5 years in Hawaii in the 70’s without any sunscreen and in the last five years have had over a dozen growths frozen or cut off of my body. I now apply spf 50 to my nose and top of ears and wear a large brim hat and long sleeves. Yes, I look like a bee keeper in the sun.

I grew up in Hawaii. I wore shorts, no shirt, no shoes. Even to school. I was as tanned as it is possible for a little Haole boy. I could stay in the sun all day and not get sunburned.
No I go to see my dermatologist on a standing one year appointment and he always burns off something, usually on my face or neck. I was at our local PCA car show on Saturday and an autocross on Sunday. Many hours in the sun, no sunburn because of this. https://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Ultra-Dry-Touch-Sunscreen-Spectrum/dp/B002JAYMEE/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1526389479&sr=8-1&keywords=neutrogena%2Bdry%2Btouch%2B100&th=1 Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen, Broad Spectrum Spf 100. It is not greasy like most and it is a great sun block. I don't want any tan. My dermatologist lectures me every year becaue he can see the tan line from my wrist watch and ring.

My wife buys me one from Japan. It wears very light and is undetectable. Pretty swesome. It’s all I can tolerate.

I will admit I had a cloth seat back cover made for my 911 seat. When at the track or autocross, I am covered in sunscreen. To get out of my 911, I invariably lean my left arm against the seat back to get out and the back of my legs leave sunscreen on the leather seat bottom, but not much.
I figure I can clean the leather seat bottom and wash the seat cover with less pain than several spots frozen off my face or melanoma surgery.

you'll more than likely recognize the brand. but the active ingredient is not FDA approved. it is in the EU and all other 1st world places.
![]() it is the only one i can tolerate. doesnt burn my eyes when i sweat, and like i mentioned, most importantly, it is undetectable when i wear it. i use it for my face only..i put other less expensive stuff on my arms if i am not wearing long sleeve. active ingredients and instructions..just in case ![]()

So you have to smuggle it into the country?

no..i got the first few when i was over there in Tokyo..got a few in Taipei as well, since they were cheaper.
my wife just ordered a few more. came in an envelope from Japan. took about a week. zero idea on cost..she is just so happy i wear it. she did say the pricing, "wasnt bad"..but with my wife, that could mean ANYTHING. she is the queen of cryptic. i can get a link if anyone is interested. i'll have to ask the wife.

Yea, if I can find the equivalent of the SPF100+ or whatever the maximum sun block I can get the better.
My doctor will still yell at me but I always tell him my hobbies are mostly outdoors. I can't wear long sleeves, Jeans and a big floppy hat and slathered in zinc oxide.
