I wanted them to be serviceable as far as lubrication so I installed some grease fittings.
I have this tube of goopy, sticky stuff that is intended for these types of bushings so my plan is to load a grease gun with whats in the tub. Should be fun!

I notched the spring plates where the fitting will be so it's easier to access the inboard grease fitting.

The result of all this is a silky smooth suspension that has very little resistance. I checked, double checked and checked again before I indexed the bars. I must have repeated the disassemble/assemble process 10 times on each corner before I was happy. If it all works out, I figure I saved myself some decent $ to spend elswhere.

I'm now working on the rear suspension and brakes. I sent my rear shocks off to Bilstein to be re-valved, rebuilt and shortened 3/4". They say 6 weeks turnaround :(
No biggie though, I'll be at this awhile. :rolleyes:


Here are the rear calipers ready for re-assembly. Also, I just ordered some "P O R S C H E" logo stencils for them. Before painting, I sanded the surface where the logo will be applied so it's nice and flat.

EDIT: Not sure how the photo got flipped so just do a handstand while viewing. :D

Thanks very much. I can't begin to tell you how unhappy I was when I found out how poorly they fit initially. All I can say is "don't buy from GT Racing"! The savings is simply not worth the hassle.

I've had to put this on the back burner on low for awhile. The wife has me doing some outdoor projects and I just picked up a "new to me" daily driver in the shape of a 2004 Passat. Although it looks and drives wonderful (only 79K on the clock!) I am in the process of making it mine. So far it's received tinted windows, new wheels and tires, 1/8" line in jack. I have the parts on hand to do the all important timing belt and water pump. After that's done I'll give it the full detail it deserves along with a trip to the paint-less dent removal dude as it has a couple tiny little dings.

This is how the bumper turned out with the weatherstrip seal mounted. I'll likely need to remove it again when the motor goes in but I couldn't resist... I lika the way it turned out!

I do feel your pain... The RSR project is being finished by someone that really knows his stuff... the amount of work that he has put on making the GT Racing parts work/fit is just overwhelming... he has had to cut, add, reinforce, cut pieces from the stock parts to graft into the fb parts to make them fit correctly... The issue is that it looks like most of the vendors require this type of extra work to fit these fb parts... anyway, at the end of the day the car will look great. Can't wait to be able to see it completely painted and to drive it around.

Back to your car. To be able to see what you started with and the current condition just encourages us to work on finishing our cars.

I just got another SC, a project someone else decided to sell due to personal reasons. He had many parts, including RS bumpers, RS carpet, etc. Looking for ideas, I came to your thread... oh boy!! Now I can't wait to get the car to our body shop expert (along with your photos) to get it done!! Once the body and paint are finished (painting the car Jade Green Metallic - #Reutter Nr. 536 / Porsche Nr. 5405 ) I will take it home and do the rest.

Unlike me, that color is truly divine. I see too many folks do a bare metal repaint only to spray on the original factory color. To each his own but why not taste the rainbow if you're going thru all that trouble?

One of the really nice things about fiberglass is it's so easy to work with. The tail on mine is from Ghetty or M.A. Shaw (I forget which) and needed only sanding and some air bubbles filled. I would have sent the other stuff back but shipping was cost prohibitive. Overall, I'm very happy with the way things turned out BUT if there ever is a next time I'll spend my $ elsewhere.

Did you reinforce the back side of those rear sway bar mounts on the chassis? The standard set up will break with the use of those big bars. Fabricate up some flat plate steel to fit the bracket and weld it to the chassis
paint finish with those stripes look really nice

In the remote chance that you remember or have it written down somewhere... what part number for that rubber trim between bumper and fender?

Actually this was the only thing I felt the PO did correctly. He made a piece that looked kind of like a butterfly and was welded in place on the backside of each mount.

I do have a concern with my own little design. I welded two different bolts (one standard thread and one metric thread) that thread into the swaybar mount on the banana arms. These bolts were welded back to back and I fear they may break at some point. Any thoughts? I can take some close ups if it helps but there are a couple shots that might give an idea of what I'm talking about here. (photos 4&5 on post 202)

I used the OE 964 smile... Got it here on pelican. I believe you have the correct number there. It looks real nice too I might add.

The head to head bolt weld is a gamble in its application. You are going to introduce forces in shear, instead of under tension/ compression. Its a risk
I would like to see you install the spring plate mount set ups that some of the bar manufacturers offer. Sure, still in shear, but the hardware is one piece with no embritelment of the metal on either side of the weld

Yeah ok, you're most likely right. I figured I'd give it try and fix it later when it breaks but better to be safe and also avoid one of those (I told you so) moments.

I found the Weltmeister eccentric mounts on the Automotion site. I'll order those. I have no idea why they didn't come with the car... maybe the PO purchased the bars after he bought the car and those weren't included???
