I had the same sticking starter with an almost new Bosch, changed to a high torque aftermarket starter and the problem was solved.
We bench tested the Bosch first and no problem, but problem came back, so switched to the high torque. Works great now. |

No the starter would keep cranking after the engine had started and the key released

well? the rebuild starter from my stash had bad solenoid..i was able to duplicate the problem on the bench. My ignition switch was most likely replaced by me(what do i remember?) since it has 964 part number on the el.portion.
So, i put together one starter from those two..so far so good. Cannot find high torgue starter in Europe..strange only bosch for 500 euros-.Not even solenoid is nowhere available.... One advice to people ,if you have Euro model with transmission cooler on the side,do not go to the GYM it is a major PITA..to do a bear hug for the upper nut.... Ivan |
Ivan, have you tried this place in Europe? They may have your solenoid.

Love stories like this. So cool to see a car hop from country to country, continent to continent. If I had to relocate the car would be coming with me.
Also impressive amount of miles! Keep it goin! |

Just when I thought my 210,000 miles was something. Great thread and nice you keep updating... Erik |
Just finished 385 miles weekend.Went to see my wife south of Munich before she goes to Thailand on Monday to seek a winter nest for us-we hate winter-....So i took my e-bike and case of beer , off i was on Friday.
I had a trouble prior my trip.I got not too long ago Pirelli tires.I drove once to Germany and i hated it.I felt like i was sitting on top of the dryer machine which was out of balance. So i took of the fronts and went to the shop who installed the tires. They rechecked it and all was good,but..the problem is that the tire s are not round. To be honest 1st time i got them i saw made in Romania...got me very very sceptical.Did some research and italians build Pirelli factory there. So , i thought oh well they know how to do them by now.But was i mistaken, scheisse!! So i took all my tires front and rear to a different shop to get 2nd opinion..kinda..all 4 tire are out of round..video here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqSC3n4xGOY Since i got them as a trade for engine job -the boy has to deal with the company he got them from. Lucky me i saved my 7 year old Continental Conti tires. I put them on and it was just perfect drive. It is amazing after 27 years ownership the 911 always brings a smile to my face on the autobahn. Here just driving passed Munich, Alps in the distance. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1711896486.jpg .......................on the way back today there was almost nobody on the autobahn. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHknEX26ggw Got home to Bohemia and i guess i`m almost there..;-) the mile stone....of 500K http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1711897394.jpg Ivan |
Dammit! Quit teasing us! Just go put another 32 miles on it and get it over with.
