Operation get 3.0 on Pick-Up truck: How much does a Carrera 3.0 engine weight?

I am going to have to conduct a highly classified operation to go into my mechanics shop and get my engine out of there. My intelligence sources are telling me that they may close out the place therefore rendering the place impossible to get into and possibly loose my engine.

My question is, how much does an Carrera 3.0(Similar to SC) engine weight? The engine has everithing on it, fuel injection ect. The engine is not attached to a transmission, I already managed to get the transmission out of there. I am planning on getting 2 or 3 friends to pick it up and dump it on a pickup truck. Is this feasable?

I don't know how much a 3.0 weighs but My dad and my friend were able to pick up my 2.0T motor but it was a longblock., barely. A ramp and a comealong might be a better idea at least for your friends back's sake

We were able to pick my 3.0 from ground level and place it into an engine stand. It was about a 3 foot lift. 4 grown men were able to lift it, no problem. Just make sure to get a good grip somewhere, there are not too many good places to lift from. Guesstimate of fully accessorized 3.0 engine (fan, cis, and exhaust) is about 400-450 lbs.

May want to bring a dolly w/ castors to move engine from garage to truck, then just lift engine onto the bed.

Here is how I got my 3.0 into the bed of a 4X4 with two people.

I would think four guys in relatively good condition could do the job.

I put mine in the back of my van using steel pipe as rollers under the exhaust. Put a couple of 2x6 as ramps, but the engine at the bottom and lift put on of the pipes under and roll up slightly and continue until you have it flush on the bed and then push. Done, took about 7 min. saves a lot of backs. good luck

My 50-year old neighbor and I lifted my fully intact 2.7 from a floor jack, fully up (20" up?), to the bed of my 4X4 Toyota PU without too much grunting. We are both pretty big guys but it wasn't much of a struggle. We lifted on the SSIs and the rear engine mount.

Personally, I think you guys that lift these motor with your backs are crazy. New backs are NLA. Sure the opposed thumb and upright stance are nice but the large brain is what you should to be using for this task.

You are absolutely right. I have always been pretty casual about lifting heavy objects because I could. Now, as I get older (36) I find my back is sore more often. Hopefully, the habit of "just grabbing the darn thing and moving it" will stop and I'll start doing as you suggest and use my brain, feeble as it is.

Thanks for the replies, I think I will have acces to an engine lift to put it on the pick-up, so the only thing I will need to do is get it down on the floor of my garage until my car is ready. So far I am thinking of getting rollers under it and ramps like someone said.

Ok, It took 4 people to handle the engine with not much problem. The engine is save at last.
