Installing CR alternator and electrocooler AC - replace A/C crankshaft pulley?

Hi all,

My COVID/winter project is sitting in my garage waiting for me to get started - the Classic Retrofit upgraded alternator and the electrocooler A/C. My car had factory A/C that didn't work when I bought the car and the compressor, condensers, and all the hoses have been removed. The dual belt crankshaft pulley is obviously still there. I don't like to replace things that don't need replacing, so I'm wondering if there are compelling reasons to replace the crankshaft pulley with the non-A/C version. I know one advantage is weight - if I am reading correctly the A/C dual belt pulley weighs 4 pounds vs. the non-A/C pulley which weighs 3 pounds. Is the amount of work worth 1 pound? Are there are other reasons to replace it - I don't know, like the way it balances or something when only using one belt? Of course, you can go further on the weight-saving side with the Rothsport aluminum pulley. Anyway, I'm just wondering if this is something that I really should do or if I should leave well enough alone and use the existing pulley.

Thanks!

Todd

I've got the double pulley on my 2.7 (AC long gone); I wish it had just the single pulley so that I could get a wrench on the bolt to turn the crank...

Not worth the 'weight' savings or un-measurable fuel savings or hp gain.

Unless you are racing toe to toe the leader of the pack.

That was basically my thought, just wanted to see if there was something else I hadn't thought of. Thanks!

What Fan mentioned is a worthwhile improvement if you are a DIY guy.

You might find someone who wants to swap - anyone fitting a compressor to a non AC car will be looking for that pulley.

Throwing on a new crank pulley with a 36-1 toothed wheel attached for possible future ignition control would be worthwhile.
