SSIs and 2 in 1 out muffler - does hanger need modification?
Engine is ‘85 3.2 in ‘80 911. Am going with SSI heat exhangers and a Dansk 2 in 1 out muffler (“partners” to 964 cams.) I failed to take measurements prior to disassembling old exhaust so am in the dark on new exhaust fitment.
Am wondering if the Dansk will hang on the stock hanger or am I going to see a need for a mod? If mod is ahead, is there an off the shelf part or am I making it? .

Mine (1980 SC Coupe w/dansk 2 in 1 out on SSI) hangs in the stock location. The muffler straps were harder to get around the muffler, but it has been in place for a couple years now without issue

I have the similar feedback. Muffler bolted up in the same location. The bolts provided with the straps were too short. I had to use longer bolts to pull it tight, The supplied bolts wouldn't reach.

Mike...Cory... thank you guys. I happened to take a rough measure of the straps-to-the-muffler yesterdaty and it appeared to be a borderline reach. Led me to question the hanger.
Will do a dry run now to see what my strap/bolt scenario is. ![]() .

My experience was the same as Mike and Cory with the strap bolts being a bit too short, which triggered multiple bouts of mechanically-induced Tourette's Syndrome.
![]() One other bit of advice: loosely bolt up the SSIs to the heads and muffler with the straps loose too. Then wiggle it around and get everything in best alignment before gradually tightening everything down. And another bit of advice: Make sure your SSIs will come with O2 sensor bungs installed, or install them before you put the exhaust together.

Checked... Need bolts twice as long. Curious that URO sells these straps with the ridiculous fit. I spoke with URO yesterday and could get zero support over the phone. The requirement is to email them the question(s). Pelican was also no help as there is no technical information on the length of these strap or others. But credit to John in sales for having a go at it. PP did offer a return with a store credit. I'll make these straps work.
Thanks Pete for the added info. I did get the SSIs with the bung installed. And checked the fit of my O2 into it---its a fit. .

Karl, the bolts don't need to be "twice as long" (unless you're joking), just 1/2" longer will do it.

Pete, I squeezed my straps on by hand and bolts twice as long looked doable. Am not planning to rig some method of pulling the straps together. Just getting bolts that will reach and be done with it. I see that guys use the longer bolts then swap them out for the shorter. Any technical reason to do that?

I had the same experience and noted that after tightening everything down and the strap taking the correct shape the long bolts could be swapped out for the originals. It is the strap taking the shape of the exhaust that allows the use of original bolts. Hope this makes sense

Ditto what Ian said. After you thightwn them up, the straps conform the the muff closer.
