No, not a chance, sorry. The engine is from Feb 1966 while the VIN is May 1967.
But tell us more about the 1967. Can you post a photo of the paint badge and the VIN stamped in the front trunk, or the aluminum badge attached to the front slam panel. They would help me determine what type engine your car should have.

The cat simply proves it was smogged for the tough state it was in. Aside from casting numbers, I see nothing else!! Where to look?

Essentially you would need to strip it down to find out what parts are in it. Someone built that engine on a new case, but probably used some parts from another engine. A factory replacement engine would have a serial #, so it is not a factory build. It is difficult to know what is inside based on what can be seen outside.

I was afraid that may be the case-thanks for the data. I'll try and post the additional info when see the car this week end.
I suppose I should also see about selling the earlier 2 litre engine and continue to run the 2.2 engine while I search for a 2.0 that would align with my car.

That's what I figured... I will live with the mystery until it gives reasons for a peek. Thank you for responding.

I'm thinking 6cyl, 911, 1970,production #3156.
Am I close?

Will.

djpateman 12-09-2013 06:41 PM

1970 type 911/06 for ROW Sportomatic 911T serial range 6103001 to 6103230
so #156 out of 230; does it still have the Sporto parts?

willcall 12-09-2013 06:47 PM

Thanks mate!
It is an engine &'box that is currently for sale locally here in Oz.
Looks pretty intact & complete.
Want me to enquire further for you??

Will

Can someone post the chart to decode these sets of numbers so we can look the up on our own? Or is it one of those "I'd tell you, but then I'd have to kill you" secret formulas? : P

djpateman 12-17-2013 08:48 AM

yes ;)

swbstudios's engine type is 901/05, for 303098 you want a type 901/01 with serial near 903300

swbstudios 12-23-2013 06:23 AM

so would my engine only be correct for 1967 or later 66 as well? Thanks

djpateman 12-23-2013 05:42 PM

901/05 907001 to 908185 were 1966 model year
901/05 909xxx was for the 1967 model year
So 907029 is ideal for Feb 1966 through July 1966.

Demetri 12-23-2013 10:11 PM

Thank you!

Hi

Do not get too excited about the Red Book numbering system. It has errors, I found that it is copied or Red Book copied it from other books, that had errors too. I found my 1969E coupe engine in the book to be for a 69E Targa. But the Porsche Kardex shows my engine is correct to the VIN. I knew the red book was wrong because I bought the car from the original owner who never did anything to the engine.

djpateman 12-24-2013 06:56 AM

There is no separation of engines by body type. Engines for the coupe and targa were pulled from the same pool of engines. While the engines were built in serial order, they were not installed in the same order. The chance of two consecutive VIN's getting engines in consecutive order are pretty slim. The same applies to transmission serial numbers.

vin # WPOAB0916HS121755

Engine code-64e04132
Any help what it is?
Looking at a car that owner doesn't have any info. Pretty rough shape. Was told it's a 81 but I don't think so
