Please crack this Engine Code

OK, you guys are ignoring me! :D

Let me try this one more time. One of our sponsor techs, in response to a ticket through the order desk, said this engine was a 1975 Carrera. Can I have a second opinion please:

Engine number 6451005

Thanks and Happy Easter and Passover.

Looks to me like a 1975 US Carrera

grizzfan 04-17-2014 06:06 PM

Thanks. Having a tune-up done on Monday and just wanted to be sure about what I have in the engine compartment!

6451005 is a type 911/43 engine which is a US 911S engine. The USA & Canada got the fake Carrera with the US 911S engine. At 165 HP it was a step above the normal 911 engine with 150 HP, but below the ROW 911S with 175 HP, and way below the Carrera RS engine with 210 HP.

Thanks djpateman!

That's what I originally thought 4 years ago when I bought this thing, but misplaced my spec sheet in a household move last year. The Carrera pronouncements sort of puzzled me. On the other hand, I suppose the dwell & timing for the two engine types will be the same.

I stumbled onto the elferhelfer.com site (Fahrzeugidentifikation 911 1974-77) and see that for 1975 the 911 S US and the 911 Carrera US (even the 911 Carrera US Calif) have the same motor type, 911/43, same motor number range 6450001-645002440 and same horsepower rating 165/5800. Don't know what to make of all of this, but I guess that means I can call it whatever feels good at the time! :D

Thanks, that was quick.
So most probably matching numbers.
I am looking at purchasing the car but will have to bargain him down.
I would say it needs 40k+ spent on it.
10 for rust and panel work
10 for paint
5 for interior
10 for motor
5+ for sundries.

I have another one for the group.
It is a 1978 SC Coupe

VIN: 9118201573
Engine #: (star) 6281870

I know both the engine and chassis are from 1978. Is there any way to tell if they "match"? Anything interesting about this engine?

Thanks in advance!

got a lead on a 914/6 with a hot rod engine, what is it? Has Bosch mechanical fuel injection hooked up...?? The VIN is 914043xx and the engine number looks to be 636075x. What is it? The mechanical fuel injection is throwing me off.

Hi guys!

I have a similar question to some of the other guys here...

I have a 911 targa although I'm not sure about the engine - i believe its not the original to the body :/

The numbers are (star) 6107724
The numbers below that is 911/07

chassis number : 351401

Is there anybody who can tell me which kind of engine is plus any other general info?

Really appreciate it!

Michael

Another question

Hi there,
As you all seem so knowledgable I thought I would pose a question. What do you think an approx value of a 1968 porsche 911 engine vin 3380433 vin 11835623 is. It is a 911 coupe s model in good body condition with original black interior (interior needs some work). It has approx 188,000kms located in canada. Thanks in advance:)

JJ 911SC 09-07-2014 03:42 PM

According to the Red book, you got a big mess...

*6107724* is a type 911/08 US Sporto that belong to a 911T 1970-71.

The 6 digits Chassis # does not fit the 1964 #'s, the only year with 6 digit.

Which is is the car suppose to be?

Do you have the transmission type?
