Early 911 and 912 where can I find them?

Can someone direct me to where are the best places to look for an early 911 or a 912, C H E A P, for a long term project, salvage tittle etc is ok.

You Guess it, Im just thinking if I can find a cheap roller early 911 or 912 I could have it at around 2200-2400pnds,then if I can put a 3.6 TT I may have a little something,with you guys in here when it comes to early cars I could get a ton of help getting my staff much easier than my current project, on the engine dept im good to go for now,oh yes the must important thing it will be for drag.

I do have a LONGGGGGGGG way to go as I have to start learning all over, short wheel base long wheel base,rust,which years to stay away from etc etc.

On the recycler there a 912's a plentiful. They average about $3500 to $5000 for apparently a decent driver or someone's priceing optimism. But that won't do Juan much good if he is in FL.

Juan, I bought my S in KY. We need to get this sorted out so we aren't just making the shipping companies rich.

I was under the impression that is was going to be the easiest part, I figure that it should be a ton of the cars all over ,the 914 never did anything for me so I have to pass on that one.

Good points, Im not looking to spend $5000 for a car that It will be extmelly modify.

What years were the ones that suffer from the rust problems?

From the early days is there ones better than others for one particular reason?

i have a 70 no engine no interior that needs front pans and 1/4 rear floor and rear seat for sale if you don't mind doing metal work. rockers posts and tube are all good.

Juan, according to the things I have learned, only Porsches from mid '76 on were galvanized. Some of the '76's didn't have the roof done or somthing like that. Anythng Porsche, 356, 914 and 911 have rust issues. I just found a virtually rust free 914 for a guy. So there are cars out there. Cars that have NEVER been in salt seem to be much better. So an original CA, NV and AZ car has good potential.

rust up to '76. Long wheel base starts in '69.

If you're going to gut it, then a lot of the conventional wisdom on the plusses and minuses of various years kinda doesn't apply.

Juan - I'd call PAP Auto in Atlanta - they have plenty of rollers - Some folks have been burned by them - so just go in with your eyes open. For a long term project - that's the route I would go... I'd also keep an open eye on e-bay - I have seen a few early Florida cars on there - Just find a beat up T - and you;ll be good to go.

Did you see the carbon fibre bodies RS replica in Excellence? 1800 lbs - that car would motor with your twin turbo set up!

For early cars go to a 69 S if possible, long wheel base, good brakes (same as the early turbo's), good resale on some engine parts to help fund the project (heads are sought after as well as the MFI).

Rust could be plentiful, look at suspension pan, longitudinals, floors, doors, jacking points, .... 901 box up to 69, 70 (and 71?) had the 911 box then went to 915. 69 901 flywheels are not easy to come by if you want lightweight ($$$).

If you find 2, I'll take one of them (honest!).

901 flywheels are not easy to come by if you want lightweight ($$$).

This is how Im thinking so far.......

Get a early 911 or 912 Coupe,Install carbon fiber doors,tail and hood,lexan windows all the way around,big brakes,either a single turbo 3.6 or a 3.6 TT and so far so good but here is the million dollar question ?

could I possible hook to this engine a 3 speed Automatic transmission?

Of course I will have to get wheelie bars and others goddies,this will be just a Drag Car.

Auto tranny??? Check with that guy that runs the drag 996. I'd love to see this thing you want to build.

I want to build (yet) another vintage race car, this time I'm starting from scratch and it will be lighter still. It'll look like the 911R's or what I like to call the cheese grater with hole punched on all none essential areas (it will be stiffened up by a beefy roll cage anyway...).

The guy that you are talking is Bellos,heck if someone could put me in touch with him that be of great help ,I figure either a 2 or 3 speed automatic tranny,wheelie bars,roll cage heck maybe a full blown tube chassis with a 911 fiberglass shell, who knows.

Regarding the brakes either she be 95% track car and 10% street car so thats why the "Big Brakes" but since I have a street car already this may be 100% drag.

Last I heard Bello was "away on vacation" I dont hang with the drag race crowd... but the Haltech people keep telling me to talk to Eddie............. his shop in NY has been closed for a few years now apparently he now is opening another shop
