TRE Motorsports Rally Info: January 1st meet between 8:00 am-8:30 am at our shop, 11046 Chandler Bl, North Hollywood, 91601. Bring a picnic basket for lunch. We'll take off after group photos and drivers meeting (!) Instructions will be handed out. After finding our way down to PCH we end up going north and traveling inland over choice sports car roads. We finish at Tapia Park in Malibu Canyon (Las Virgenes Road between Mulholland Highway and PCH)
All sports cars are welcome- we had 125 or so cars last year. This rally is more spirited than Phil Hill's "parade" , but everyone is welcome to go at their own (prudent) pace

Please tell your friends and rsvp so we can estimate how much coffee and donuts to have ready (first come/ first served!)

I can verify that Kev's Corvair is a true Porsche killer. Don't let the Desert Storm beater image fool you...

If that oil leak gets any worse, it will easily kill any Porsche that gets behind it!

Calm down guy's. Let's not blow things out of proprtion . I have managed to get my greedy little hands on a wadded up Yenko ( I'm still in the process of verifying the numbers). It appears to be a '66 or a '67 Phase 2 conversion. Phase 2's were mainly suspension mods with a 160 hp 4 carb engine. The person who I'm getting this from is slowly taking it apart and shipping the good parts to me. I have to transplant the parts to my existing '66. If it weren't for having to make a living I'd be further along on the project but have to date installed much of the Yenko suspension, springs, sway bars, and quick steering arms. I haven't even recieved the motor and trans yet. I'm hoping to have that by The TRE New Years Day Rally.
I may not be as quick as "Scruffy Europeanus" just yet but I'll get there. And as long as Mrs. Jeromey phones in her grocery list I'm confident in my track (parade) position on our weekend get together.
And as far as those oil leaks go.....IT'S STILL A CORVAIR!!! How about a little more "Tech" and a little less "Weenie"!!
See you all on the 13th.

A Corvair that's a Porsche killer? Sounds kind of fishy ... a 911 killer maaaybe, but a 914-6 killer it surely isn't.

Of course, one's car has to be drivable to beat anything, so I guess I'm out of the picture ... damn 17 year-old girls not paying attention **grumble grumble**

Have fun on the run and keep the rubber side down, fellas. I'll be sleeping in this year ...

Quick Thread Hijacking

The Scene: Saturday Night, Haskell just north of Ventura Blvd., 10:30pm

I was driving home from work, headed down Haskell to the freeway on-ramp (for anyone who doesn't know, Haskell is a two lane, residential street with two stopsigns - speed limit 30mph). So there I was, cruising down the street at about 25-30 mph headed for the on-ramp. I'm the ONLY moving car on the road in either direction, and I see a little Chevy Cavalier about 15 yards up ahead. It's rolling slowly next to the curb on the my side of the road with its brake lights on.

I think to myself, "Okay, this guy is parking," so I move towards the center line to give the person room in case they open the door. Then, when I'm about 5 yards away, the car makes a sudden U-turn across my path of travel. SWEEEEET!!!

I climb on the brakes and lock 'em up, doing everything I can to avoid the moron in front of me. The driver got scared when my tires started screeching and just stopped in the middle of the road - if the car would have moved we would have had a close call instead of an accident. No dice ...

I knew I was gonna hit the Cavaliet, so I did everything I could to avoid hitting it in the door. I wound up colliding with the left side of the car just behind the rear wheel.

As soon as the accident occured I opened my door and started yelling vicious obcenities at the driver - who turned out to be a 17 year-old girl. She started crying and her two girlfriends started yelling at me because I "hit them" and made her cry. I screamed for about 10 minutes, when I was done screaming I started laughing like a maniac.

Now, left front of my car is toast. I got paid by my insurance company - her's claimed that I rearended her?!?!?! - and I'm not sure what I'm gonna do ... fix it or total it. I'm looking for a 914-6 chassis if anyone has a lead on a decent condition, clean title car.

So, that's the story, Kevin, and I apologize for hijacking the thread.

I might have a lead on a 914-6 chassis. Actually Techweenie has it. Shoot some pics my way, let's see if it can be saved.

TRE/Dave,
Last year's mid-point meeting at Reel Inn was a great location with quite a bit of parking. (not too many places on PCH to park 125+ cars).
Let us know the itinerary. I will meet up with you guys on PCH. Can't make it to the shop earlier.

thanks
mike
