245/45's on 9's - no fit problems on my 79

7s/9s 245/45s on my 86 Cab.
Previous owner paid $750 each from Performance Wheel & Tire in Englewood CO. There was some rubbing of the fenders on the front tires, even though it is at stock height. I rolled back the front fenders to accomodate. This pic is pre-fender rolling. No rubbing at all on the rears, as there is plenty of room. It is almost time for some new tires on front and back. |

I just paid 1000, for excellent condition polished 7's and 8's. In pricing 9's they averaged 700 to 900 each. I found some used for 650.00 but they were not in great shape. The only benefit I can see is a small amount of sidewall deflection difference on the 8's. I'm running 245's, which are the only reasonable width for Carrera flares. Much wider tires in the correct height are difficult to find. My sidewalls don't buldge at all on my 8's so I decided to save some money, and got a good deal. The 8's are just about as pricy as the 9's.
BTW... Wheel Enhancements is run by a bunch of *********s. I have never received anything but attitude in the few times I've talked to them. It amazes me they are still in business.

I don't care for Wheel Enhancement either. They won't give you squat for your trade in, yet want top dollar for their wheels.
With no street advantage of 9's over 8's (except bragging rights), and the cost and availability being same (maybe 8's even rarer than 9's to find), I went with the 8's. Also, despite the fact that most guys with 245/45's on 9's have no problems, i have heard a couple guys have rubbing issues. Lastly, the 8's and 9's have the same depth LIP, so look similar mounted. The extra inch of the 9's are offset inboard. Lastly, i do feel the winning bid of $1715 is high. I got my set off ebay (16x7+8's), then finished by Al Reed for total under $1000. Anyway, here are mine: Mike '86 coupe ![]() |

Try Harvey Wiedman; great guy, great work. I have no experience with Al Reed, but he too has a good rep. Maybe not the same level of work as Wiedman, but great prices.

I've been thinking of going to 9's in the rear but at my ride height in the rear of 23 3/4's I wonder if I will have a rubbing problem with 245's 45's?

Hmm, immaculate 87 930 fuchs?
I wonder what the chances are that they are the old set from my car that the PO sold . . ![]() Judging by the prices I have seen on e-bay and elsewhere over the past few years I think fuchs are starting to appreciate. Last edited by 350HP930; 11-30-2003 at 10:42 AM.. |

I price these babies about 6 weeks ago. The going rate for polished was around a grand a piece. The 8's weren't much cheaper. I looked all around the country and Canada too.
In my opinion 8's are the way to go if you can find them, but basically your in the same boat... Here is a pick of one of mine... ![]() ![]()

This place http://www.wheelcollision.com/porsche1.html is listing Fuchs for the following prices:
PORSCHE 72-90 911 H67134 A ANODIZED 16x6 Fuchs 5Spk 91136211300 $757.00 $275.00 $250.00 PORSCHE 72-90 911 H67134 B ANODIZED 16x7 Fuchs 5Spk 91136211500 $850.00 $350.00 $325.00 PORSCHE 72-90 911 H67134 C ANODIZED 16x8 Fuchs 5Spk 91136211700 $1,000.00 $420.00 $370.00 PORSCHE 72-90 911 TURBO H67134 D ANODIZED 16x9 Fuchs 5Spk 91136211900 $897.00 $550.00 $475.00 The prices are retail, their price, and trade in. It is interesting to see the 8's actually have a higher retail price. It is worth a call to find out if they actually have them in stock. |

My $0.02...
Check your local PCA classifieds. Yeah, I know, everyone says this. I always thought it was pointless, esp. looking for wheels. Bored, I checked the local PCA Potomac classifieds. Next day I was the owner of a nice set of 951 8s and 930 9s w/ Toyo Proxies... $1300.

Hey Doc,
I tried Wheel Collision Center. They looked for a couple months for 9's but couldn't come up with any. Nice people though. |

RT...
The 9" wheel has exactly the same outboard profile as the 8". All of the additional width is inboard. As long as the wheels are Turbo offset they should not rub, even with 245's. Unless the car is really slammed or the camber is goofy...

Bought mine from a PCA member in Portland who advertised in Pano. Drove down there looked at them and paid 1400, for a nice set of 7/9's. Then took them to a local metal polisher who did them up for 135.00 a piece including caps.
Picture won't load...
