4.3 very fun miles, the power is so strong but so smooth, I was in heaven, then it ended like this…
![]() Anybody up for an engine drop party? ![]() It looks like it’s the new flywheel seal. Oil is pouring out at the front of the engine. I haven’t done a complete investigation since this just happened thirty minutes ago, but I had to share my sweet success, and my sorrow. ![]()

Sorry to hear, but congrats too on the work - nice job! The best part about pulling a motor this soon is it will go quickly............and the re install will obviously be easier too.

Been jealously lurking on this thread. Real bummer on the oil leak. No doubt you'll have it up and running in a matter of days if not hours.

Ryan,
At least you are real familiar with everything now and there is no dirt or grease to mess things up. Hope it goes fast! Joe

I'm curious why the seal would fail like that?? How was your oil pressure ?

Thanks for the condolences, and the complements. I’m trying to devise a plan for the next couple weeks, I’m calling uncle today. I might just take a week off work and try to knock it out. I should only need a flywheel seal, flywheel bolts, and two more cases of Mobil 1 (damn!). Can you guys think of anything else I need?
My oil pressure stayed good, I’m glad I was just on a short run. The seal went in fairly easy so I know it’s not from being beat up on installation. I guess I’ll know when get it apart, I sure do have a mess to clean up. Frank, great to hear things are moving along. I haven’t forgotten about you, call me when you are ready to sit down and talk about the wiring (evening so I can have the wiring diagrams available). That engine will be awesome when you get it done, do you want to trade? ![]()

first off, no real 911 engine seal experience, just with other engine rebuilds. new crank seals/ main seals usually only leak:
-installed backwards (lip the wrong direstion) not sure if this is possible with the 911 seal design -seal torn during installation -excessive crankcase pressure just my 2 cents. the experts will probably offer up some more advice. not sure why you would need a week off to fix it. If you did some of the preliminary work for the drop, it wouldn't take long to have it out with some help (and a proper extension on your ATV jack). And since the install is still fresh in our minds, I would estimate 3 or 4 hours to reinstall it into place....then a few more hours to do all of the safety wire stuff etc. Glad that you at least got to have the power push you back in the seat at least once ![]() max
