Duck Tail usefull or MACHO ??
I am thinking to install a Duck Tail on my 1972 S-RS
Link to picture of car: http://www.dreamsonwheels.com/images/porsche/S/DSCF0005.JPG Will a duck tail make my car even better looking? Or increase airflow into the engine compartment? Or even handle better for speeds under 85mph ? Or is it all about MACHOoooooooooooo? Thanks, Harold ![]()

Howard,
Do a search... been discussed ad-nuaseum It is useful, it will provide more air to your engine, it looks great, no, it's not Macho... yes, it's a worthwhile upgrade. ESPECIALLY, if YOU think it's macho!!! ![]()

I can hear all the ducks starting to quack now
![]() Harold, I don't have a Ducktail so I'll let the guys who do state their benifits. I do like the way your 72 looks as it sits though, Nice 911 ![]() |

I put a duck on my 79, then ended up taking it off...I like the clean lines better. That being said if I end up liking the track a bunch, I likely will end up getting another one.

your car looks awesome how it is. I agree with other saying that a duck tale would break the eloquent Porsche line. Unless you NEED the downforce leave it alone.

I have read many of the threads involving the duck tail. I don't remember anyone indicating the air into the motor before just now. There has to be a high pressure area at the front base of the tail where there is normally a low pressure area. That alone makes the tail advantageous in supplying more air for cooling.

Bottom line, do YOU like the look? Why gives two rats testicles about what some knot head in a 97 honda accord with a 747 wing attached to the trunk lid thinks.
BTW, I like your car, especially the color

Ducks are not macho. They are not fast, their rumps wiggle as they waddle, and their bills are toothless.
Whales are macho. They are big, they are fast, in orca form they hunt in "wolfpacks", they are the top of the food chain, and as an avid watcher of TV nature programs I can tell you they are, err, well-endowed. Hence, I have a whale tail, not a duck tail, on my car. Anyway, aren't duck tails prone to water puddles where mosquitos breed?

Que es muy macho?
Ducks are suitable for all body styles. There was even a short run created (aftermarket) for 993s.

Will the car handle better? Yes, I noticed a difference.
Does it increase the air flow to the engine compartment? yes, I noticed a 10-15 degree drop in my engine temp. Does it look better? Yes ![]() Go for it! v/r Wayne C. 83 SC |

The ducktail creates more downforce (though you will also need a front spoiler), cools the engine, reduces grime and soot on the taillights, and gets the good head nod from lots of other drivers.
And it is MACHO. It gives a 911 a purposeful look as opposed to a lot of other overgrown tails one can put on their Porsche. Techweenie - that is one cool little machine. Congrats!
