Console is attached to engine case via 3 nuts/studs, shown below it is attached via bolts on a 3.6 swap motor.

thanks.... i dont car for re-using the same 20 year old rusted nuts....and there's nothing worse than getting a stripped nut off in a tight spot.
now i have a choice between 18-8 S/S and 316 S/S.....any differences? and nut height 4mm or 6.5mm? Last edited by on-ramp; 06-01-2004 at 08:47 AM.. |

None of the pieces of that component will fly out or be tricky. If you haven't removed the throttle linkage from the console be careful to note whether it has a wire retaining clip holding the socket on the ball. The clip would be easy to miss in a dark engine compartment. I just unscrew the linkage (long wire going to transmission) rather than trying to pop the linkage off the ball.

The spacer, if it isn't part of the console, will just slide over the stud. If you don't grab it, the spacer should just stay there unless you turn the motor upside down. My memory is a little fuzzy on the spacer. I'm thinking that it was missing from later consoles but I could just be having a "senior moment".

ok, it seems kinda tight back there, working behind 6 fuel lines is also a bit nerve-wrecking. however, i did manage to get at 2/3 nuts using a combination of swivel/extension with a socket wrench...
i can see it taking 1/2 hr just to undo each nut....once the nuts come off, will the console come right out, or is there some kind of Chinese puzzle i need to solve to get it out? there are quite a few 20 year old rusted parts i need to replace around this area (plus the bell crank at the transmission). hopefully the pedal response will improve Last edited by on-ramp; 06-03-2004 at 05:03 PM.. |
