headlamp upgrade

First of all, yes, I've done a search, and have looked at a lot of nice installs, but I am wondering if there is a tech article (or a thread I did not locate) by Warren Hall or anyone else that details EVERY step in a full headlamp wiring upgrade? Suitable for a complete rookie? Pics etc. I installed a Sucro relay kit (2 relays) and some 90/120 bulbs, thought I was all set (before I found many more threads). But I have burned out the bulbs despite limited use, and the lights flicker brighter and softer. Obviously I need better wiring, connectors, etc. I would like to do this right. TIA.

Sounds like you might have an alternator problem? Specifically the voltage regulator. Flickering and voltage spikes (which blow out headlights) is usually due to a faulty voltage regulator. My car just started doing this spiking this past weekend. Ticks me off too because the alt. is a very new rebuilt unit. Good thing I had just installed a voltmeter so I could literally see the voltage spiking as I was driving. AND, the darn problem blew out my spendy Narva lightbulbs (90W lowbeams, 100W highbeams).

I don't think you'll find a "EVERY STEP" H4 install for the 911 that includes complete rewiring beyond the fuse panel. Here's some info. I posted when I did my headlight upgrade:

H5 to H4 upgrade

I would like to have chronicled my work, but it was rather tedious and I am a slow worker. You don't want me posting a tech article anyway. It'd be so long i'd get banned from this message board..................

It's not hard to do. The wiring diagram for your car and good, quality materials are all that's needed to do it right. I'm an idiot when it comes to electrical stuff and I was able to figure it out. Albeit rather slowly........

My sources for stuff:

--->Relays & relay female terminal blocks, misc. crimp-on terminals & heatshrink terminals, black PVC wire sheathing, good crimp tool for open-end terminals, circuit breakers & covers- Waytek Wire (www.waytekwire.com) great online catalog and customer service

--->Ancor marine grade wire- BoatUS boating supply (www.boatus-store.com)

--->Euro H4 Headlights- Pelicanparts (not to mention the tech. info.)

--->Narva bulbs and bulb connectors- Daniel Stern Lighting (www.danielsternlighting.com) which also has good tech. info.

Iwould agree with Kevin that you have an alternator / voltage regulator problem which make the headlights pulsate.
