East Bay Engine Drop Rookie

Any veterans interested in a 3.2 drop? I could use the company.

Where are you at? When are you planning to do the job?

I'm an engine drop virgin too but if you can use another pair of hands, I'd like to be there.

I've never done it, but I'll show up if you invite me! Hell, I'll even bring a pizza.

I'll come eat the pizza before it gets cold while y'all fiddle with the engine.

When do you plan to do the drop? I've done drops on my old VW more times than I care to remember, but never on the pcar. Be happy to come help out if you would like.

What are you dropping it for?

Dan

Cool, I need to get moving on it. I'll add you guys to my buddy list and let you know as soon as possible. I live in Livermore, easy to find. I have plenty of room and most of the tools. I plan on taking some time off work, pulling the motor and taking it to my mech so he can soak up some of my cash. That'll give me the opportunity to do some engine bay cleanup and "while you're at it" stuff. I'm looking at the weekend of the 26-27th of June, but I'll let you guys know for sure soon.

moaz, the pizza is on me!

Dan, I'm overdue for a valve adjust, and leaking a little around the chain guard. I'm over 150k right now, so there is the possibility I'll have the top end gone over. I want to drop the engine myself to gain the experience, and my mech is very good about doing certain work for me, and not giving me the "all or nothing" sales pitch. I'd like to clean up the engine compartment too.

Excellent timing. My car should be back from the body shop before then...hell I might even have most of the upholstery fixed up.

I'll remember to bring my camera and take tons of photos.

Great, it might be a good project to post. Where are you in Fremont, Moaz? I work at the Air Traffic Control Center on Central & Blacow.

I live in Fremont (Stevenson), but I work in Santa Clara (Sun campus). Central & Blacow is very nearby to me...

Rick, keep me posted. I'll happily come and lend a hand. If nothing else, I can bring some beer.

z dude! i would be peed off if i wasnt invited! i am IN! i can take off time at work too if you need me to. i have like 300 vacation hours stored up. and tomorrow i get 8 hours in honor of mr reagans funeral. i have to work, so i get the hours floating. nice. let me know what tools you need, multiple floor jacks would be nice. i also have an engine hoist, from my miata motor install, that would be nice to have around, getting the motor into a truck or such(onto furniture dolly). you got a mapp gass torch? i will pm you my cell number! no anchovies dude.

Okay, let's see...
Sixteen cases of beer - check
eight floor jacks - check
eight creepers - check
pizza for eight - check

I knew I could count on this crazy bunch. I can't wait.

Cliff you are absolutely invited. The hoist might be of great help. I have a pickup to haul the motor if I decide to take it to the wrench. I have a couple of floor jacks, but no dolly or cart to rest the motor on. I probably grab something at Home Depot if necessary. No mapp gass torch.

Anyone that is interested is welcome to stop by and lend a hand, or just watch. I'll post who is coming for sure so that folks will know if there are already eighteen guys in my garage. I'd like to keep it "reasonable" without giving anyone the impression I don't want their help, or appreciate their interest. I've met a few of the guys on a Mines Road run, and I want to make sure they're included for sure. Vash, Cantdrv55, DanTheCat, kjb, you guys are in if you want. Aigel PM'd me yesterday that he, too lives in Livermore, and has experience, so it could be the beginning of a wonderful relationship.

I suppose the easy thing to do is to first confirm the date, which I'll be able to do by tomorrow. Then I'll ask for confirmation from you guys.

I am on the Peninsula side, and have done this job on a 84 more times than I care to remember, some all by myself coming out and going in. So, I'll offer my help too. But, i understand that there can be too many chefs in the kitchen.
