RS interior and resale...

Do you think that having RS interior makes a car more or less appealing (valuable) to a perspective buyer? I know that some people think the RS door panels are chincy.

Anything you do to a car that changes it from original will devalue it in most cases. If it is a first time 911 buyer and they haven't looked at many car, perhaps not. If it is someone that is scouring used cars looking for a creampuff, they will walk. RS door panels may look nice, but I find them very impracticle for keeping odds and end tucked away in the car. But door pockets that are falling apart aren't much better.

Probably devalues the car for ONLY that market that is interested in a bone stock car. With these cars we are doing so much to them that I believe if you do it tastfully (as I think I've managed to) then you will always have a group of buyers that will see value in what you do (usually those that have owned an older 911 before and know how much blood, sweat and tears it takes). It just gets more subjective and the market population fluctuates with every mod.

Also, I think you need to compliment certain mods. For example: if you are going with the RS Carpet, then go with RS door panels, don't put RS America panels on an older car, throw in a Prototipo and you'll soon have a car that looks old and retro on the inside but well balanced. I think that mixing old and new parts just doesn't look correct. I'm not a fan of a 70s car that has a 930 steering wheel etc..

If you do it right and everything is well balanced, then people will see more value in it.

That's my 3c.

Tristan

Terry,
Keep your original stuff stashed away, even if not perfect.

Best,
Grady

For perspective. If my car was a bone stock 1973 911T I would not have given it a second look. Some people want a stock car....some people avoid them.

look up the cost of a new door panel, in the correct interior color, new pocket with the right carpet, a door handle and door release lever, and all the little bits needed to install it all. Multiply it by 2 (2doors) throw in some labor, and that is what it would cost someone to return it to stock in the future.

Look at it this way. I think the RS panels are cool, but if I were negotiating for your car I would bring it up as a value issue. Keep your original parts, that way the perspective owner gets the best of both worlds.

I don't have the original parts. The original interior was tartan navy blue, Yuk! I recently aquired some black original door handles and panels. I figure I can throw those in.

Just my opinion (you asked) I think the RS door panels are the German equivalent of "rice."

---------
Unless the car is so full-race that the panels are used for removing the last couple of lbs from the interior, after everything else is done.

Some people use them because of the exorbitant cost of redoing stock.

I'll be going with some rs door panels in my 73. It's just because of cost. I'm sure it will devalue it some but I won't have to worry about messing up those high dollar pockets.

I did put the pockets in my 72S. I think it makes more of a difference there as its a more valuable car.

It all depends on who the buyer is but I would definatly pay more for a early car with the original style pockets. Even if I didn't want them I know I could sell them for a good price.

In my eyes the RS panels would reduce the value for the typical buyer.
