Nice, looks better than the Singer posted earlier. Except for the engine, I think Singers are overdone.

[QUOTE=Johnny Graham;9612704
I took it around Spa at night (meant to be a 'parade lap' but they let us go for it, ended up at 10/10ths!) over to the Nurburgring for a few laps, and we saw 145+, with the roof off, on the Autobahn back to Rotterdam. It was fine at that speed with no roof, surprisingly, although I do notice the loss of stiffness on more aggressive twisty driving. The roof makes a big difference here, strange considering it is only a foldable piece of vinyl.
You should try to get a harness bar with drop links even if you do not use it for harnesses. I installed one custom built locally from Speedware and it really stiffened up my older targa. Unfortunately, Speedware is no longer in business but it looks like others are making harness bars for our cars. Scott
I've been following this thread for several years whilst I've restored my car and backdated it. The pictures have been a great help and an inspiration. So thanks all.
I used all genuine parts and we fabricated where the bits didn't fit. Finished the car this summer and still ironing out the wrinkles but alls pretty good now. Still a few odds and ends, but getting there. Heres the pics. I guess you'll all know where the inspiration came from! :-) Nick Nick your path and mine are uncannily alike - maybe due to the same inspiration. I really like the look of your back date - well done! Here are some pics showing what i started with (black) and what i ended up with (2015 Porsche Agate Grey). Your picture video shows a great story as well. I just pulled my engine and packaged it with the transmission for a rebuild. For me I wanted a mid 80's impact bumper car - that's what we dreamed about as kids!

![]() Here's my '68 912 Soft Window Targa. I've owned this car for 40 or so years and it's never not started nor left me stranded on the road. Except for that time when the throttle linkage fell off. Ten minutes later, back on the road.

Nearing the end of my backdate project...my 1985. I have owned it since 1989 and have about 250,000 miles on it now. It was time for a refresh, so I went with the body style I like the best:
![]() Details on the project are here: so this is how a backdate project starts... |
