So Glad to see this, as I'm working to make my full race '70 Targa S a more street driving R style with mid-fenders, but trying to make sure it'll look good. This is a nice example

No more Ruby? that was one of my favorite Targas, every time I saw the pic I wished that the PO of mine had installed a duck spoiler rather than the Carrera tail,

Stolen. crashed, sold,...or?

Owned since 2004. Restored over the first 7 years. Now has 340,000 kms on the clock - she gets driven hard. Recently added some "get up n go" and a complete trans rebuild. Missing the long distance canyon carving and road adventures with the border being closed.

Hi Charlie, love the fuel injection upgrade and a BC boy at that! Any other mods to the engine? I've done a hot rod with PMO carbs on my Carrera. Maybe you need to come to the Island for some long distant drives. I'm not based in Victoria buy most of the toys are there. Before Covid 19 I was there about once a month. Not sure when I'll get back now but maybe we'll tie up some day.

I’m looking for creative ways to store my 1973 911 Targa top in my garage for when it’s not in use. Maybe a good and safe way to hang it...but I’m open to all ideas. I currently have it sitting on a shelf and when I come out the next day, my kids have placed all sorts of stuff on top of it. It makes me cringe when I see it...one day soon, someone is going to put something heavy on it and damage it. Thx!

Hang it from the ceiling using rope and pulleys?

I think the rear view of a targa is one of the best rear ends in the automotive world. Much better than the cabrio or the coupe. My opinion.

Thanks Mark.

Have over 340,000 kms on the engine/car. PO did a top end rebuild just before I got it at 225,000 kms. So - it was time to rebuild plus I have always wanted a bit of a hot rod and made the plunge.

Engine was done by Turn 3 - I have known Jeff for years. Was going to do the engine myself - even took the 911 engine rebuild course. After much discussion with Jeff we finalized engine build based on my needs - long distance cruiser and canyon carver as in my footer/garage. Goal was for a focus was to ensure enough mid range performance to over come the awkward gearing gap of the 915 trans between 2nd and 3rd. Have always found this gap a pain in the ass when canyon carving. Was considering regearing, but the engine build resolved that issue. The top end of the engine is unbelievable. TQ curve comes on at about 3,300 rpm and peaks at 5,300. She pulls like a freight train. It will take a few miles to get comfortable with the performance and car handling.

So - engine has:

3.2 SS
10.5 to 1
twin plug AEM infinity with coil on plug
ported heads
DC cams
Jenvey 40mm ITBs
existing SSIs
M&K single out with GT3 style outlets with removable caps - these are loud. Unforgiving below 3,000 rpm, but will be amazing bouncing off the canyon walls at full tilt.

I also did a full rebuild the 915 box with syncros, sliders and bearings along with new diff bearings and setting the diff. A friend and I did the rebuild following the Zimmerman online instructions. Scary going into it, but once you understand how it works it is actually very logical how it works. The box had the infamous pinion bearing race spun in the case. That required the box having a vacation at California Motorsport for machining. The trans shifts so smooth now.

As of today, I have some 1500 kms on the engine and trans so it is officially "broken in". There has been limited driving with the current self isolating challenge and the border closed. We tend to do most of our driving adventures in Washington, Oregon and Idaho.

Driving now puts an even bigger smile on my face.

Sounds like a fun lil hot rod. Please post a car an engine pic. Thanks for sharing.

So we have some common ground for sure Charlie. I went a different route with my engine though. The short list is new 3.4 pistons, PMO Carbs, 964 cams, Ignition123 distributor, SSI’s, performance exhaust. The factory DMI is all out so more of a race set up.

Lots of mid range like you wanted, sounds like a scalded ape above 4,000 rpm and definitely big smiles. I’ve got about 2,000 km on the rebuild and so far so good. I was having a bit of an idle jet issue last time I was driving it but managed to get it dyno run anyway. Carbs are now good but at that time it went 221 WHP and 229 torque. So solid numbers for sure. I would love to tie up with you and rip up some canyons. I’ll send you a PM with contact info
