Thane,

It's nice to see another Rosewood Targa

Looks great with the spoiler and polished lip Fuchs.

Are they 8 and 9 rims?

Thanks John.

Gotta love Rosewood - if you don't like the colour just wait for the sun to hit it a little differently and voila another hue

7's and 8's actually.

My First Porsche

Well I'm pretty new to the Porsche world. After finishing college and getting a real job, I splurged on my first 911. It's a '75 Targa I found online. It's not a daily driver, and isn't concours but it is in really good shape. I have found myself enjoying the little projects (recovering the top, changing gaskets, etc.), learning as I go. I have also met some helpful PCA people in town, and have enjoyed taking it to local shows just for fun. I know 2.7 Targas aren't very collectible in the 911 world, but I think I found a great car and have enjoyed it immensely!

Value wise they might be almost at the bottom, but good original ones are getting rarer every day. (At least in Europe). They usually need more work, but in "smiles per hour" they're close to the rest...

Hey - it's your car and you're enjoying it. I'd say that's as much value as anyone can ask for!

Welcome to our world. You will fit in nicely here. I think we all started out as you. Maybe with not as god a car as you but we all started like you, and learned as we went. Very nice car too by the way.

Thanks, I think that's what counts! Someday I'll step up to a newer one but I kind of like the looks of the old 911s

Great thread.

I am partial to Targa's and hunting for my first Porsche. I have a question - I see some of the Targa's have a chrome or silver covered roll bar section and others are black. Is the chrome / silver covered one from a certain year or can you find that in multiple years. I saw one that I believe is 71. Curious if that was offered in other years.

Thanks

Targa "hoops" were brushed steel / aluminum until the late 70s, after which they were painted black. Some people like to "backdate" their Targa hoops by removing the paint and refinishing the aluminum look. Others "updated" their aluminum look by painting them...some even a body color. So its hard to tell a car's year by it's hoop finish.

That's all I got...

Targa bars are all stainless steel. They started to finish them in black in the mid seventies, though you could still special order your bar in brushed stainless from the factory later than that (I believe Ed Hughes's is that way). You can take ANY Targa bar and strip the paint off and give it the brushed stainless effect yourself though as they are all the same material underneath.

Funny, the latest Rolls has a Stainless steel hood... Targas were there waaaay before.

I really like the stainless steel look of the hoop, and appreciate that even after 30+ years they look like new !

Thanks for the info. I really like the brushed silver look. I will continue my search for a targa in the DFW area.
