For those with these great vanity plates, you need to remember one thing. All us cops do a lot of driving on our off duty time. Many is the time some idiot with a vanity plate (any type of veh.) did something really stupid and that info was ingrained in my brain for months. A few times, I'd see that veh. later while on duty and find reason to that driver and I to have nice little chat, if you know what I mean. On that comes to mind is a m/c that was passing on the shoulder at over 100 in heavy traffic. His plate was "I FLY"....I saw this and thought" I'll CATCH U LATER" A few weeks later I did.
If you're inclined to open it up at times, just something to remember. I also makes it easier for that citizen with the cell phone calling the highway patrol (this happens more all the time) to get your idenity more accurately.

Glad to know only "idiots" have vanity plates.
Also glad to know that this is the mentality of our civil servants. Do you honestly think I'm that stupid? I've had this plate on 2 different Porsches for 10 years in 3 states with only 1 ticket. Not all of us are stupid. Probably all cops aren't *******s either.

I think the point of the vanity plate comment was not to call all Vanity Plate users "idots", it was simply to note that if you act like an "idiot" and you have a vanity plate, you have a better than average chance of getting caught (sooner or later).
thanks for the tip!! Chris |

Rarlyl8 - You took me all wrong....I specifically said "vanity plates on any type of veh".....If you don't agree a m/c passing on the shoulder at over 100 in heavy traffic doesn't need special attention, I guess I'm in that class that has a mentality you don't agree with....I like your plate, was just passing on a helpfuly tip....Thax for the support CBRacerX

Bob
I understand exactly what you are saying, and got the initial message. Vanity plates can be fun, and unique. But also a detriment to anyone who decides to drive like an idiot. Not a generalization of Vplate owners, but rather a comment on idiots who have vanity plates. Any person, cop or not, can relate that a Vplate is much easier to remember than a standard plate, and if they see a Vplate on a car doing something stupid, they'll remember it easier, making it easier to report, or for Law Enforcement to recall. RARLY... Love the car, love the plate. I'd get one on mine, but I'm too cheap to pay the 100 bucks. Jim

anonymity is always nice when you're doing something bad, but at the same time my green car is kinda hard to forget. I feel that unless I were in SoCal, I will always be the only one w/ this car/color combo.
Plate or no plate, I *may* be remembered. Guess all that's left is to play the odds of (not)running into the same guy w/ a badge.

RarelyL8, I think you may have read into Bob's statement. I agree that vanity license plates stick in someone's mind and make an impression. A few weeks ago while I was driving to work, a gangster in a car with vanity plates tailgated my truck and almost drove me off the road. As he passed me, he was laughing and talking on his cell phone. You can bet that I am going to remember his plate! He was indifferent as to the danger that he caused me. That could have been my wife and kids, or for that matter, your wife and kids. There is no revenge, it is simply a matter of safety to the public.
If the shoe does not fit, don't wear it. Just my $.02, David

David,
Not sure how I read into Bob's comments, I thought they were right on point and a good item to remember. I was being supportive, not the other way around. Cheers, Chris |

I can't believe ANYONE is so stupid as to act up in a vehicle with a vanity plate.
As for my car, do you THINK I need a vanity plate to get noticed? Me neither. I leave the acting up to my blend-into-the-woodwork grey truck. Yes, passing on the shoulder at 100mph is beyond stupid. Doing it with a vanity plate is beyond words.

Back in the late 80's when we were young and "less experienced", three friends and I all built turbo look coupes (OK, one was a real turbo but he wasn't engaged to a Jersey Girl!

IMHO people buy certain colors to reflect their personality or expressly to be noticed (not a bad thing). But they also need to keep in mind that being an 'evil-doer' in a stand-out car will be far more readily seen than some one who is not. Pick you color, pick you poisen, or just drive reasonibly and not worry about it, as our fellow Pelicanites in law enforcement have pointed out.

Guess we need to define "acting up". HA!
This really is a moot point. We all know that you have to behave yourself when in the Porsche, or expect a more harsh treatment than someone in a "regular" vehicle would receive.

My mistake CBRacerX! It was meant for RarlyL8. I don't think getting a vanity plate makes some more or less an idiot. It is behavior that determines someone's character.
Now stop typing and go for a drive.....David
