What about a Short Shift Kit?
Kermit has a short shift kit installed on him. I have had a bit of difficulty shifting since I picked him up. Supposedly the linkage bushings are OK, and the mechanic I have it at is looking at adjusting the linkage.
He said that he thinks that the problem may be the short shift kit. Question: If I have him take the short shift kit off, is this just a removal of parts, or is there something else that needs to be installed to take its place? I don't know if the short shift kit is an add-on or a replacement for factory installed parts. TIA. larry

It's, just parts, I'm sure someone would love to swap you.

I think most of these are add-ons (glue-ons) to the factory lever.
So, you will need a swap. Or you could buy one from a wrecking yard, eBay etc. Post a pic and the experts here can ID the manf. Also search on this.... |

if its a factory short shift it is more than just parts. The lever is one of the parts.

Maybe he means that special aura that comes with the factory Crest
..... you know - the one that costs 80% extra. |

That looks familiar but at least in my experience the short shift kit is a little difficult to shift with especially with the 915 tranny and in lower gears. It almost has to be babied when shifting.

I could show that same picture but I don't believe it is glued on to the factory lever.

The add on/extension randy was talkin about was an aftermarket kit that used to be about $40. It was the cheapest kit you could buy. The weltermeister and factory kit short shift have a solid lever.

I just sold a '70T with a short shift kit. I also found it difficult. I much prefer my '66 911 with stock system and new bushings. I would replace it with stock.

The shift housings for the 901 and 915 gearbox are different so I don't think you can make any direct comparisons with how a short shift kit works for each one.
