Great car Ted,

Happy to see it's still around! I'm working on a similar track car build and wanted to know what you thought about your motor/tyre size combo?!? Is it to much of a momemtum machine or can you motor steer it around some corners? And what rsr kit are you using, gt-racing 15'' or rennspeed 13'' or 15''.
I'll definently be starting with a somewhat stock 3.6 but intend to boost at some point but not anytime soon... I was planning on going gt-racing 15'' rear quarters but a little scared it will be just too wide for the power.

Will your quarters be dsus quarterturn attached, if so i'd love to see some pics!

Regards
Carl

Hi Carl,
The same question was asked a couple years ago.
See the reply below from "CLE" which is Cary E from ERP, he makes the 935 suspension parts on the car.
Cary dialed the shocks in at the track.
Momentum car, imho yes, but every 911 regardless of tire width with 300hp or less could be considered a momentum car too.
This car begs to be left foot braked, maybe it's the big 275/40/17 fronts?
For rovals it is down on top end power and high on drag.
This combo prefers medium speed twisty tracks suited towards the 3.6 torque and mechanical grip.
Fits my driving style perfectly.

This is an AIR RSR kit with a Getty tail. I can't speak for others but the AIR RSR kit will cost you serious $$ in body work to make perfect.
I wanted the 15" look, the 13" look is a great choice too.
I plan to hang the coolers and front end this week.
I'll take some photos and post them asap.
Enjoy the video.
cheers

Chris the silver RSR looks great, nice to see them completed.

Hi Milt, saw you darting around at the PHX club, look forward to catching up with you next time.

Can you hear me drag the engine down with the left foot brake?

This is for Carl ref. momentum car?

With such a wide body and so much rubber and wing, don't you need more than a "close to stock" 3.6 to get the full benefit? I don't know what you got the lap times down to but your earlier post said they were about the same as pre-RSR+. I am sure they got quicker as you dialed in, but how much.

I guess I am prompted to ask because I remember talking to my old Porsche mechanic about a car he prepared. It was more or less an IROC style replica with a carbed 3.2 producing circa 300hp. It was sold and the new owner bought a whole lot of bodywork in the widebody 993GT2 style complete with high wing and big front bumper/splitter plus bigger wheels. My mechanic made some comment about it being a total waste of money and predicted it would be no faster. Sure enough, he was correct. It was a little quicker thru the corners but it was slower on the straights. Really tough to race as well as the lack of straight line speed made it easy to get held up and hard to overtake even if in qualifying it could post a half decent lap time.

Now I appreciate you are doing a much more thorough job - hence I don't want this to read like a criticism or attack. I just wondered what your views would be. BTW, I genuinely hope your results speak for themselves and prove me 100% wrong. I have really enjoyed following the buid-up of the car.

Cheers,
Richard

As far as the amount of tire, I think with the weight of this car and the torque of the 3.6 you can run about as big of a tire as you want as long as you're not getting much over 140 mph often. The most important part now that the car has been shaken down some, is to put some brand new rubber on it now. I also have to add that not only does the car look cool but it REALLY sounds cool with that 2 in to 1 tip Jae built. There is a LOT going on with this car and it's going to take a little more effort to get it dialed but, I'm sure you'll see sub 28's soon and then Mike will have a better handle on what it will do from there. About 5 years ago I worked with a 1969 912 that had a stock 3.6 with headers 10.5" and 13" wheels with as big of rubber that would fit on them and we did a low 1:23 with that car. Mikes car is going to go fast....really fast ... soon.
Buffing out an AIR rear quarter...

LOL.... Love it!!!

Ya, had read the full thread but figured maybe after a couple years of running you might have changed your mind! Guess not.... Very happy to hear this!!

15'' RSR here we come.........

( Just hope I can get enough front end grip to kick the rear out a little under hard trail braking.... Getting very excited now!! )

I would also like to pick your brain about your rear suspension mods. Are you happy with the modified rear shock pick up points? Where they moved up to lower the chassis or changed attack angle?

Great car and thanks for sharing the knowledge!

really nice work. I like the widebody look. I saw comments you made about ride height for speedbumps. If this is a street car too, thats awesome. I agree that you should make molds. You could make fiberglass copies with the molds and make some $$ selling those. For the street thing, what shocks are you running? Are they adjustable? If they are really stiff, do you have trouble with them on the road. Im building a car for racing (spec 911) and Ill keep it street if possible and I wonder how bad stiff shocks are on the street.

Take a look here: Excellence :: 911 Shape Shifter : The story behind this "1969 911T"

Scott, stiff dampers will be worse than stiff springs on the street. Can you go adjustable in Spec 911?

Hi Scott, it has adjustable JRZ when set on soft the ride is softer.
I just re did the suspension with big springs 750/600 and adjusted the shocks to match.
All to get the most out of some 15x11 and 15x14 bias ply slicks.
I have the car set up just how I like it at the track.
Last on the list (besides paint) would be a set of 16 inch wheels and GY bias ply slicks.
If I were to drive it on the fwy more I'd replace the close ratio 5th with a stock 5th ratio.
Here's an update with recent photos and video.
cheers,
Mike

Sure doesn't suffer for lack of power out of corners. Nice wheel work to keep her in a straight line.

It was nice of him to let the Cup car come back into the lead for a little while.

It's ready for the vintage races.
A Porsche designer suggested I paint it Mexico blue.
He said the black sucks in too much shape.
Then I came across the 1977 Sebring winner and decided to make a tribute car.
10 years ago this car was a longhood Brumos tribute.

Mechanically everything was just rebuilt and now its ready for some vintage racing.
My good friend and 911 expert Vic Ofner is located in Prescott AZ.

Bravo !
My friend Tommy owned the real deal and ran it a few times in vintage races. It will be good to see your tribute hitting the circuits.
