RSR Clone Tire Clearance Question

I will be running 245X16 front tires on my '73 RSR clone. It looks as if I will have interference with the dust boots on the front struts. Are any of you guys running tires this wide with dust boots on the struts?

I am thinking that the dust boots will have to go.

I have 245/45/17s on a 9"rim on the front with about 1" clearance between the tire and strut cover. I think it all depends on the wheel/offset your running.

If 245's fit between the strut cover and the fender lip, I would expect that I could use the right size spacer to get the tire positioned correctly.

I'm running 255's, and Tyson has a plan to remove my coils (and substitute in torsion bars, and add effective spring rate with the JRZ's nitrogen pressure) so that I can run 275's in front.

But my car is kind of a one-off. Too many mods for a useful apples-to-apples comparison.

I'm running 255/35-18s on 9" rims with no problems. (930 fenders on a '78SC)
My old '73T had 255/40-15s on 9" rims. (weld-on flares) Also no issues.

Tom,

I hope you don't mind me digging up an old post. What did you end up doing to fit the 9x16 Fuchs with 245/45/16 tires up front? Did you end up removing the strut dust covers, use spacers, or what?

I'm thinking about using the same front wheel/tire setup on my widebody. Thanks for the help!
