I didn't mean RUF wheels where bling, I meant bling wheels are usually heavy large wheels better left for the esclade crowd, sorry if that affends any esclade owners, but the rappers have made them seem like a silly ride to me. But I do think heavy wheels affect suspension, breaks and acceleration.

RUF wheels
Here are front and rear in boxes.
To all of you crying about wheel weight and so on, heard it okay. I simply got them because I like them. I dont care if the normal guy on the street doesnt know they are from RUF. I didnt get them for him but only for me, myself and I! ![]()

These wheels were spec'd for a car(the CTR Yellowbird) that does about 215mph and at those speeds, I think a bit of unsprung weight is the least of your concerns - you want strength. Sure, most people will never need wheels that strong(I don't know how strong they are but I'm guessing Ruf wanted a VERY strong wheel) - but some will.
I love the way they look. No better "resto mod" wheel out there imo.

Ruf rims sprayed in Porsche black(A1)
Rears:285/40/17-10inch Fronts:235/40/17-9inch Pity I cant go more than 285 with the rear 10inch rims. However I've had them on my car for 5 years, been thru potholes etc etc etc and they are still rock solid till today. I swear by them at least.

The new wheels are made by Avus instead of Speedline and are actually quite a bit lighter (22lbs instead of 28lbs). That's getting a lot closer to a fikse with the awesome ruf look...

so 22 lbs? doesn't sound quite so bad. then again, what do i know.. hehehe..
how does that compare to the factory fuchs?

Not nearly as good as fuchs, but you do have a full inch more diameter. Also, you can't get a tire wider than a 245 in 16s, which is pretty much worthless with 500plus HP...
I think fuchs are about 16lbs, really light 17s are about 18lbs, good 17s are 22 to 24lbs and heavy is 26 plus. Add 2 to 5 more pounds for 18s. More metal = more weight. -dc |

If anyone gives a rip, the RUF wheels have proven to be strong mothers - a nice touch, eh? ;-)

Sherwood put together a lot of wheel weight data here
FWIW the Ruf Speed lines did get a bad rep on track a few years ago, don't really know how deserved it was, I have also seen cracked Fikse and Kinesis and Fuchs wheels. I have Speedlines on my 993 for street(they are also at the heavy end of the scale) Please don't ever use the cast after markets on track though.

I was at a wheel shop a couple of weeks ago and saw a failed (what appeared to be a) Ruf front wheel. The outer flange had broken where it meets the spokes and it appeared the metal there was barely over 1/16th" thick.
Either theres's somebody making very authentic-looking knock-offs that are dangerously poorly engineered or someone machined the wheel after it was sold. It broke on the tire mounting machine; thankfully not on the street. Be careful out there!
