saving a 73E progress

i got this 73E non-sunroof coupe, w/sport seats, from a customer after he interfaced with a guard rail. it just came back from being pulled back into shape on a frame rack. the next job is to replace the suspension pan/tank support and front latch panel. the right battery box will be deleted and the hole filled to make room for a cooler and fan. it seems to have sprouted something on it's butt too. it may or may not stay. i had some 73 style fuchs destined for the vw bus, but i found some deep sixes for that, so the cookie cutters that the 73 came with went away. i'm still looking for a 69-73 right front fender locally, but i have a nice 87 one that i can weld the turn signal section to if i can't find one soon. a metal S front bumper with the lower lip is on the search list too.

John,
GREAT! Glad to see this board doesn't take all of your time and that you are still able to work on your customer's vehicles, too! Your comments are such a valuable part of the bbs.

Thanks for sharing and good luck with the project!

Doug

Hey JW!

I'm doing the same type of project right now!

I've got a '69-'73 right fender that has some rot in the lower rear section but would make a good grafting candidate.

John,
Would love to say hello in person, even go to the same woody show! Give me an email if you remember, and I'll do the same. Would love to buy you a beer or lunch.

Doug

Oops, I took a closer look at the grill size and noticed a couple holes for a side reflector, it's a '68 fender, nevermind....

i have the turn signal section i carved off a 69 912 fender, so i can attach that to a good 87 fender and make an early one out of it, but an original would be easier. i'm toying with the rear flare idea, because i know about some RS flares on a wrecked 71 targa, which i cannibalized somewhat for the duck, carpets, and lots of trim items, but i kinda like the narrow body for a change. oh, i need a good gas tank also. the early style that takes the full size spare. the bike is a '63 BMW R50. anybody have a nice denman solo seat for sale?

Darryl,

That hit is going to need to be pulled on a frame machine, but when it's straight, I have a good panel -- from above the battery box all the way back to the hood hinge -- that's never been hit.

I'm cutting up the chassis, so let me know if you're interested.

(I don't have good sections for what JWW is fixing)

Nice car...A '73 E coupe is worth keeping it an original narrowbody. Flares and RS look is OK for Ts.

Hey Dave!

I keep an online project blog http://members.aol.com/darryld/912.htm which I take the pictures for as events happen. My 83-y-o retired mechanic Dad in Colorado just loves monitoring my progress from his personal computer.
