DME speed / Ref sensor code

I disconnected the three connectors on the engine assuming they were keyed and / or different sizes ... two of them are identical. The two I'm having trouble with I think go to the variable reluctance sensors on the back of the engine.

The wires have barely readable tags on them, the plug side I think says BC, BG and the receptacle side DC ,DG. Should I try DG to BG? The C is hard to distinguish from a G!

How about a german lesson? What do those initials stand for?

If the car doesn't start, you know they have to be swapped ..... ask me how I know.

It won't hurt anything if they're wrong.

Josh is correct. Doesn't hurt a thing if they're connected wrong. Just won't start.

The way I remember which is which is BG = Bottom. The DG is the middle one, the head temp sensor is the top white connector.

The "B" is for the reference sensor (hence BG) and the "D" is for the speed sensor (DG). The sensors are actually the same part, but as the others noted the car will not start if the wiring is reversed.

Don't know what the actual letters stand for...
