obrut,
Things have been going a little slow on the C4RSR. It has a low priory in the shop. We have been to busy working on customer jobs and haven't been doing to much to it. We haven't stopped working on it though. I will take some pics of it this Friday and up date you guys. Kraftwerk, You are right they are kinda like sculpture. Thou I have never thought of it that way. I think of it more like Porsche art. This car is really being built more as a cool street car that you can drive every day. As well take to the track and have a little fun with. It will have all the comfort stuff like AC, heat ,cruse control and stereo. |
thanks for the note don - i'm really looking forward to seeing how you treat the areas under the rockers covers.
|
Well Guys,
I have now desided to do the C4RSR with the blue trim. I think it will look great. Since my man edesign45 the Photoshop Wiz did the one with the blue grafx its been eating at me. And I was feeling blue today also so I desided turn that blue into something CooL. I even did a little pole a few months ago on the color grafx you guys think it should be done in. #1 White with Blue 12 48.00% #2 White with Black 6 24.00% #3 White with Other 5 20.00% #4 White with Red 2 8.00% with a Total of 25 votes. I just finished a 76 RSR White with Black grafx so it is time for the blue one. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1135048091.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1135048143.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1135048183.jpg SmileWavy |
That'll be lookin' good Doc! Very cool.....
Cheers |
Blue is cool Doc, way to go, turn that frown upside down!
Happy Holidays! |
Yo Doc -- blue is good. But what's next? Of the original colors I think all you've got left is lime(ish) green.
Hey btw --- keep it up. You're doing great work. I'm sure there are many (self included) that are envious of your approach to earning a living. |
New Stuff going on
Jeremy,
Thanks Man!:o Well here is some of the stuff we have been doing on the project. The front fenders are well on there way to getting done. They almost just bolted on. We had to some trimming on the chassis a little. They went on easer the fiberglass ones! Here is a few pics of the work. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1135224873.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1135224908.jpg See Part 2 foor some real work. |
More part 2
Well since we are going to use a steel long hood.
We desided to make the hood latch the proper way. :D So! We cut out the C4 stuff and then welded in a latch panel section that we cut out of a 1967 912. Dano fix it right up and it works like a charm. ;) Little more finish work and it will get the DONE stamp! Its going to paint & body NEXT. :) But! Well thats the busiest part of the shop and it will going kinda piece meel for a wile. I am trying to have it done in April 06. Here some pics. SorrY! about the pics quality I aint no phototog:o http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1135225875.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1135225894.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1135225919.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1135225945.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1135225965.jpg |
Don -- tks for the update. What would estimate the labor hours were to backdate the latchpanel?
|
Moment of silence for the 67 912 please XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
|
Jeremy,
I have no real idea Dano has be working on it the last few days. It was a lot of tricky work, the most so far. We were in uncharted territory on this one. But NOW it all mached up and ready for the body shop to do the rest. It will all get painted white with the body. bigrubberjeep, Thanks! :( Think of it as an organ donor.:D Now it will live on in this car that is 23 years younger. Life goes on. :) I used the 67 912 piece because it didn't have the hole for the washer bottle. It was in great shape so we used it. The rest of the car is history. Here is what it looks like all mached up. SmileWavy http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1135303115.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1135303140.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1135303159.jpg |
No biggie Don, my first Porsche was a pearly white 67 912 (Love at first sight), car was sold back in 1998 due to low compression issues and what not for less then $2500 (I was not in good financial state at the time)
What's with these cars? Why do we get emotionaly attached to them anyhow, they are just cars. |

You love them, you make them better and then they get older and then one day they leave the nest. :( But there still family and you still love them. ;) They just live some were else. SmileWavy WERE ALSO NUTS :D Man! I have a large family! |

Thanks, Ed |
Hey Ed,
Sorry! I don't have the color yet. Eric did the photoshop thing on it. But, I will know the color soon. I have already ordered the blue grafx kit. When it comes in I will have the paint company color scan it. That way they'll match. :D That's what I did on the wht/red RSR and it worked out great. SmileWavy |
Hey Guys,
Well the project has been goin a little slow. Do to the shop is very busy on customers cars, and the customer comes first! We have got just about all the mach ups done and everything fits really very nice. :D I have ordered the wheels from Mike Lindsey with all the secret offsets. ;) 9.5's & 11's X 17's I have got the sport shocks, springs, big reds, and some of the other goody for the car here already. I am waiting on the body shop division to getter painted. BUT! There are the busiest guys in the shop right now. So I am in a long line. Get the wheels on and it IS gona really look like a 73 RSR. :D I'll get some pics of the front end. For some reason they won't load for now. SmileWavy |

Don, any idea what the early latch panel section would cost? Gus |
Hey Gus!
They are $345 from Bill at Restortion Design. |

Can you tell me about the front bumper used on this car (99)? Would it be possible to mount this on a short hood car ('80) without significant alteration? It looks like a bolt-on product. I'm looking for something in FRP other than the typical RSR bumper for a short hood RSR track car. |
C2 3.8RSR
Quote:
Yes,It will fit on your car. That car is a 92 C2. The front end on that car is a C2 turbo with spliter. We got it from Hank at GT Racing. That whole car is fiberglass except the lower section of the tub.:D SmileWavy |
Don
Thanks, I'm looking for my GT Racing catalog right now, I like the look. Thanks for sharing some of your great projects and techniques with us. |
This is officially the best thread I have ever read and it is not even done yet. Man......I have to get back to work !!!!
PorscheDoc, please keep the pics rolling as the work progresses. I Love you work !!!! |
Hey Rodney,
Thanks Man! :o We have been haven a great time building it. :D Here is a few pics after the mach up. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1138499133.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1138499224.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1138499265.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1138499331.jpg |

What is with the horrible front splitter extensions
everyone seems to do them on the RSR and IMHO i think it spoils them |
Here is my 3.2 Im working on.
The obvious bits sills and b posts are rotten. when i stripped the front wings though they were solid which is not bad for a 1984 UK car. 964 engine in it now. Id go for the RSR route but couldnt get the car down the driveway. youve probably all seen these by now Check my running Project: AND POST YOUR OWN if you want http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1138871001.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1138871036.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1138871321.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1138871339.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1138871357.jpg |
Doc,
Any new pics or updates on the RSR? |
Hey Guys!
I really need you guys input or opinion on the wheels for the C4RSR project! The Mike Lindsey has the wheels done and I have a dilemma. They are beautifully!! The paddles are polished and now, I not sure about the polished look. I think, I like them painted solid. Like Mike did on the white/red RSR we did last year. So the question is leave polished. Or paint solid. The chassis is going into the paint shop next week. So soon it will be all white!:D Thanks Guys! SmileWavy http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1140662730.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1140662768.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1140662842.jpg |
I like the unpainted spokes. I prefer a matte finish.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1140663477.jpg
|
I vote for painted over polished. Appears more period correct, even for a back date!
Cheers, |
I vote for polished as they are. Those wheels look incredible with the blue background over polished paddles.
|
I do like the polish too, should have specified that. Just prefer (slightly) matte. You chose well!
Let's see them on the car. Doug |
Hey Doug,
I can't but them on the car. There still at Lindsey Racing. I think on certain cars or colored cars they look the best with them polished or matte finish. Like Sliver! ;) I think on this white/blue car they just look to bling bling. IMO |
Too bling.....
Paint the paddles.... |
Paint em or matte, no polish
|
I would say leave them polished, they can get matted later if you get tired of the shine.
|
Matte for sure
|
i voted painted!!
|
Try a little bit of everything.
1. Polished lip 2. Matte Paddles 3. Painted background :) Just kidding, I would say if it was an exact replica of an RSR then definately Matte finish, but it is not. So, go with either polished paddels or blue, they both will look good, and everyone on this board that doubts it will still look at the wheels when they are on the car and say "Holy Crap, that RSR Kicks A$$". So, long story short you can't go wrong. |
