3.6 conversion heating w/stock heat exch.

I would like to know what type of hose the 3.6 gurus used on their conversions. I am keeping the 993 heat exchangers, so i need a hose which connects the outlet of the exchangers (oval) to the connector for the heating.

Winter is coming and I would like to be ready!!!

Thanks

On the top or the bottom?

On the bottom, I fabbed up my own connector with exaust tubing and a piece of aluminum dryer hose. For the top, there's a really trick carbon fiber piece available

A much nicer solution is to use the 993 cast aluminum heat crossover tube. I found one on this BBS for $75 I then used 2 1/2" aircraft defroster hose (the orange silicone high temp stuff ) which is the same as Porsche uses originally I think I paid less than $40 for 6 feet.I made 2 simple funnel adapters from sheetmetal to connect to the oval outlets. It works well and looks fine.

W/ 993 header use the 993 heat tube
You can see it here below the sheetmetal, if the cat was present it would be below the heat tube.

On my 993 I use B&B headers w/ a 964 heat tube.

I called a small airplane repair place at our local airport, from the phone book.. They had it in stock for a Cessna I think I just described it as high temp silicone hose possibly orange and they had several diameters.Sold by the foot..A hydraulic hose supplier I spoke to knew exactly what I was looking for also but had to order it and I would have to take 12 ft @$8/ft.min. They suggested the aircraft industry used it for defroster or heater duct.
Timmons will sell you the same stuff I think he wanted $75-80 for 5 feet plus shipping. He wanted about $100 for the 2 sheetmetal adapter funnels. The end result looks exactly like a pic on his website but costs much less.

In my recent 3.2 build, I pre-fitted 993 HEs, but wanted to begin with the existing bolt-on 2in/2out muffler and SSIs. However, here's how I fabricated the early hot air system onto the 993 heat exchangers:

Heat exchanger inlet modified for valve cover access:

45º silicone elbow adapter connects engine air shroud hose to HE inlet (There's a short internal tube behind the double hose clamps to connect the SCEET hose to the silicone adapter.

Heat exchanger Al outlet hose adapter (Revotec.com). I don't recall the large OD end (before reshaping), but the small end is 2.5" OD:

Al adapter annealed, then ovalized and expanded a bit to fit heat exchanger outlet:

Hose connection, HE to cabin hot air valves using add'l 2.5" (63mm) SCEET hose as above:

Works for both Gillett and Bishoff HEs (Gillett shown). Add'l SCEET and hose connection tubes missing:

Hope this helps,
Sherwood
