Question Compression testers?

In the process of troubleshooting my low idle/stalling condition, I decided to do a compression test on the engine to verify the internals are OK.

Is there a special, solid extension I need for these engines? The hose on the tester I bought is slightly bent, so I'm having difficulty actually getting it in at the right angle to screw into the plug hole

Very frustrating indeed

How do u guys do it? Is there a special "PORSCHE" tool

I bought a compression tester from Sears, for $25 or so, that has a 12" long flexible hose. Works great.

The flexible hose just takes a little patience, but it is the right thing to use..

Cheers

This is what I did to my comp gauge hose to help fit into the sparkplug hole.

Finally got the hose into # 6 cylinder after much friggin around. I just hope it's not going to be so bad for the rest of them. I like what you've done above Doug. Very ingenious

Questions:

- Do I NEED to disable my fuel pumps?
- Must compression tests be done on a warm engine?
- How do I do a leakdown test? What type of tool/instrument is required for that?

Excuse the first-time newbie questions
