The time frame is now up in the air as Peter's schedule is very tight.

I would guess we'll see the motor in 3 weeks.

From what we've seen on this board, some amazing folks can step up and help out when a project is at a crossroads or an impasse is met.

Very focused individuals... Guys that you've read about in Pano (like Norbert Singer).... who will immerse themselves in the sort of problems you're experiencing.

bump ---- and Happy Holiday !

You guys want to see our T-Shirts??

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1180548253.jpg

- sorry about Matteo's CenterLocks obstructing the view - they're really nice shirts...

rennch 05-30-2007 10:11 AM

Keith....wanna trade shirts?

Facey 05-30-2007 10:53 AM

i wouldn't even mind if you sent me the shirts 'packed' in those centerlocks... i'm sure the shirts would get here un-harmed..

-ahem- WOW

Elombard 05-30-2007 12:08 PM

good night!! there are no words. I need people to start ordering these by the thousands so that the unit cost can come down!

rennch 05-30-2007 12:32 PM

Eric, did you make that centerlock kit? Or do you just mean that you WANT them? (Like the rest of us...) :)

911teo 05-30-2007 02:32 PM

The centerlocks were made by Jim Torres and are avaliable through Zuffenhaus only.

Jeff Alton, Zuffenhaus and Kodiak are working to bring to the market a set of 917/RSR forged modular replica centerlock wheels.

These will be avaliable with custom offset and sizes. The original wheels were 15' but there is a talk of a 17' center too to accomodate more modern tires.

Stay tuned.

As per the motor... Well Peter Dawe is in Watkins Glen for the race this weekend... So he will be hands on my motor early next week....

rennch 05-30-2007 02:35 PM

Thanks for the update Matteo. I just sent a shipment of shirts to Jeff last week. I love the idea of the 17" as well!

hkiang1 05-30-2007 05:09 PM

I can't believe that I have never seen this thread!

Matteo. What you cannot see is that I am bowing down. Amazing. Just amazing. And I thought I was crazy... (meaning this in a complimentary way, of course.)

All my best, and I am looking forward to seeing pictures of the finished car... likely along with the rest of the world.

rennch 05-30-2007 05:52 PM

No question that when it's done, a professional photographer should spend an hour with it. I know a great one in California who would do it...and is a total car guy. hirkophoto.com..he has great racing shots too. I'm sure we have a few pro photographers on the board, no?

jpahemi 05-30-2007 07:19 PM

I didn't know Peter Dawe was still involved in Porsche engine tuning....

and how!

in fact, we work with Peter on quite a few projects.

Big HP projects.

Very top-shelf.

Duckworth 06-02-2007 05:47 PM

Frankly, great workmanship has already been done on your 911. How many more man-hours to complete it all is not known by most here.

The world today has lots of competing interests for everyone's time. Time - is the key thing in short supply....

Hopefully, the guys working out the problems have ample time and resources to give ... Further, it appears you have top notch people in your corner.

All of whom are as passionate with the finished project as you are.

update...

I've been measuring these centerlocks for wheels...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1181831745.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1181831802.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1181831884.jpg

These are set up to use the stock 2-piece early front 930 rotors on all four corners, with stock 930 calipers, mounted in the stock arrangement (no spacers or adaptors). The rotor hats are different dimensions front and rear to allow this excellent fitment.

The wheel mounting surface is also very close to the stock location (not exact, but close).

mjshira 06-14-2007 06:44 AM

in a word, SICK!

jmz 06-14-2007 07:10 AM

these pics make me want to fly out to North Carolina just to see it in person. What an amazing car this is!

911teo 06-14-2007 08:37 AM

Keith

show us the pics of the wheels that are going to be mounted on the centerlocks...

Engine update....

no news.... http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/shake.gif

eimkeith 06-15-2007 04:35 AM

Matteo - similar to this - (but the size of the mounted wheel):

eimkeith 06-15-2007 05:06 AM

or, this even (technically, the more correct wheel):

Keith,
Does that mean they are going to go ahead with the 17" version? Thanks.

Ed

randywebb 06-15-2007 09:56 PM

The wheels on the 917 were Mg and cost $4,000 each....

Duckworth 06-15-2007 11:46 PM

We've been hearing about wheels and spindles for months....

It's the motor which has not been discussed much...and the tweaking of the motor - including all the technology and mapping stuff needed.

From what I've heard, Dawe is a great mechanic... He is the wrench involved.

Any updates he can share would be a real morale booster.

911teo 06-16-2007 10:38 AM

Yes the motor is the big deal... here is the story...

I need to have this car in running condition before I can move to England.

Since we used a new tub I need to have the DMV issue a new title. For them to do that an inspector needs to come out and check that the car is street legal and running....

Tricky without an engine.

Peter Dawe offered to help us out after Timmins' engine tuner had the accident.

Since we are in the middle of the racing season Peter Dawe is buried with work for racing customers. So I am in the queue.

The tuning session was supposed to take place last week, but things got in the way.

So we are waiting.

Correct and a set of 917 wheels wuould set you back $15k right now.

But a wheel manufacturer stepped in and is working on gettin a set of forged modular 3-piece replica wheels done.

We are possibly 3-4 months away for the wheels though.

In the meantime I am going to run the Lindseys RSR Fuchs.

jevvy 06-16-2007 01:37 PM

Hey Matteo do you not still have the 3.6? If time is an issue could you put the 3.6 in for now and get the ball rolling then get the 3.8 tuned here in the UK on UK gas etc?

911teo 06-16-2007 02:06 PM

I sold the 3.6 to a good friend. We thought abt using a different motor to pass inspection but we'd need a whole harness as well.

At the time we were under the impression that my engine was going to be ready sooner. But as things stand it might become our best option.

johndglynn 06-16-2007 02:22 PM

Teo, in the great scheme of things if you had to move over without the car, and then fly back for a few days to run it through its inspection and get it in with the shippers, would that not be OK? Our MoTeC guy here could easily fettle the EFI setup on UK fuel at first service.

I think if there's any way to just hang on and let Keith put it all together properly first time around then you should go that way. If I had just put all those weeks into building it I would want to see it run out of my workshop as a finished article.

I love the 917 rims if you can get them remade, but the Lindseys will look superb also.

A brand-new friend of mine has modular centrelocks on his racecar, dunno where he got them but wonder if similar wheels would fit yours. I know a clever associate of his made all the disc hats and wheel mounts etc (we were just out at Spa together, maybe we can drag you along next year):

Fuch Centerlocks

Are there any plans to produce Fuch replicas that can accomodate the centerlocks?

Jeff Alton 06-16-2007 02:41 PM

Maybe......... :)

Cheers

That's what I want to do. At Zuffenhaus they are the best and they put so many hours into this car.... Plus the motor issue has nothing to do with them.

Having the car shipped by itself creates issue as the deal I got from the car-transport company involves the shipment of all 4 cars togehter (993, Cayenne, GT and 911).

Anyway it will all sort itself out...

And I am in for Spa next time you guys go...

rennch 06-16-2007 04:43 PM

Hmmm...Matteo,

I'm sure some *generous* Pelicanites would be happy to just drive those cars cross country for you, to some port on the east coast.

Don't push your way to the front of the line, folks.

:)

911 in SC 06-16-2007 05:43 PM

With Matteo being in Charlotte, the drive to Charleston would only be 4-5 hours (maybe 6). I don't think you'd have a problem finding a few Pelicans to assist driving them to the port! I know I'm in if I'm in town!

Good luck man. I know I can't wait to see it completed!

Later,
Mike

mjshira 06-16-2007 05:49 PM

If we are being generous lets get him someone to set that engine up... the man has the patience of a saint at this point with all the waiting. One can only hope that the wait will make the pleasure of the finished project all the more rewarding. hang in there Matteo!

Jeff Alton 06-17-2007 09:24 PM

Keith, I realise these will connected by hoses (the areas cirlced in red), and that it was done to keep air from going under the car. But, do you think there is any brake cooling advantaged gained by dumping the air into the wheel well (as a side benefit)?

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1182144240.jpg

Cheers

toddu 06-18-2007 07:43 PM

Matteo,
I think I saw your Ford GT headed north on 77 this afternoon???

Looks good!
